Hi! (Thoughts of a newb)

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

I only use norways till I hit akira's. Defiants short range wont be a problem?

Important Multiplayer tip: Do NOT play against Dominus Noctis, Mal or Mort. IF you play allied with them, better get ships out of the shipyards on the double, or you just will see only enemy debris.

  Lol!

And if you happen to play against:

Mort - Make sure you scour the entire map to finish him off.  If you don't get every last ships he will win.  You won't know how he did it.  He just WILL.  :D  He's wily like a fox :fox:

Mal - You will proudly be brandishing your destroyer fleet in all it's glory until a Romulan battleship decloaks, sneezes, and blows your ships away.  :guns:  You'll whine "HOW DID HE GET THOSE SO FAST?"

Dom Noc - Super Guide Powers.  He's like Hannibal Lecter.  He will eat your liver with fava beans and a rare Chianti.  :hungry:

Oh and to actually be useful:  Defiants from the mixed tech yard get the benefit of being available without researching the last Chassis.  If you do have the Eraudi Yard and can research Critical Shot then you've got access to a fast and small Battleship with good anti-destroyer weapons and a special that knocks out weapons.  Ba-zing!

Norways are very nice to handle destroyer fleets with Plasma Coil and for assaulting Starbases or turrets due to their last special, but overall they are weak for a Cruiser and are better replaced by Akira's as the game drags on.  If you play Mayson only then yes Norways can handle the game well until you reach stronger units, but keep in mind that online a good player will know how to counter your Norways.

Also, Sovvy spam, I'd like to introduce you to Su'sa spam.  BLAM!  :crybaby:  Sovvy's make excellent Christmas Tree decorations.

Haha yes I suppose that would be a sight to see.  So many abilities like that which stacked can blow away a whole fleet in one go:  Klingons seem to take them especially hard.

I watched a fleet of 8 Griffins decloak and instantly destroy 18 Sang's that I had with sensor jammer.  I wanted to cry cry cry.

I started playing as random now to get a feel for the other races.
Yes the defiant OWNS...as soon as you get it in range. If you have a klingon ally even BETTER the defiant is CHEAP, a bit slow to build, but CHEAP for a battleship and can do a lot of damage.

Ive started falling in love with the borg lately. Assimilators are AWESOME. Its much easier to knock out the crew of a vessel and then pick it up later if I want it. Too bad I was never able to assimilate a descent. CURSE its 600 crew. Oh and a single borg tactical cube was able to totally destroy an enemy base. TOTALLY AWESOME.

I didnt like the dominion personally. Dont really know why. Havent hit the other two races yet.

I still feel like I dont have a handle for the game yet. Maybe once I get wippien working and try playing online. I still win but it IS easy ai. I have seen very FEW enemy battlehips. Even those have been primarily warp-in descents.

Yeah it's very fun when it's in range.  I don't find it to be particularly cheap but it is a specific role battleship with lots of fun micro-managing to do.  And while it fights you can go "pew pew pew!"  :2guns:

Bug swarm!  :)

Play harder AI's and you'll see lots of Battleships.  Or play us online and in a 2 v 2 game you'll see battleships as they were intended to be:  in small numbers making a BIG difference!

I usually need a LOT of tritium so the amount I save by building a defiant instead of a norway is actually a lot.

 Just saw this, nice one Snapshot_9 :D

Mayson Feds can indeed tend to be tritanium expensive - so many useful support vessels tends to do the trick :)

I really find that Excel II's with a compliment of Remores and Canaverals, with some Akiras and (if i have time/ resources) Sovvies is a good mix.

Add some Intrepids for seasoning and you have a good meal of firepower and fleet griefing to feed any race.

Indeed Snapshot :) . As Mayson, Excel II's will be your core, with Akiras only being produced much later, after you've filled out your fleet with all the available support vessels (basically ensuring that all your yards are producing to maximum efficiency). A nice batch of Defiants makes for some nice heavy hit and run freighter killers too :)

I find defiants work better in a fleet, send them in with special weapons autonomy off and use canaverals sensor blackout. The Defiants will no doubt out last the Canaverals as people hate them with such flaming passion. The Defiant Special knocksout weapons systems for 5sec is it? Use it on the strongest ship and get the fleets stronger ships to refocus, leave the weaker ships to self target as they will soften up the targets  allowing for an easier kill.

PS: i have wippen all working but noone seems to be online? It says "Wippen network addaptor not working. Procceed with IM.

Is that bad?

Twelve seconds :) . Perhaps try reinstalling the Wippien Adaptor (unless you can play a game) - that certainly doesn't sound good
