I think, the Newton should on a double-golden status lose its phaser array (so it cant attack anymore, but can be promotet) but for this, it gains a passive, that will do great against beam weapons and on the elite status, this passive will be enhanced with a point blank torpedo defense.

So this vessel might take a load of beam attacks and will evade/neutralise torps. So the support will be very good fitted while this vessel tries to repair a ship, it will also kill the torps in dogfight range and can take punishment.

I dont want it to have a phaser at all it is usally firing rather than doing what i want which is repairing.

Myles wrote:you miss my point, he was trying to rank up a ship by destroying enemies.

for ships which can rank up you can just do what i said.

its quicker than finding some enemies to blow up.

my point was advising how to rank up quicker in general.

B...b..b..b...but... thats cheating!!!

Actually, i just like trying out crazy things against the AI from time to time.  You never know, one day a crazy strategy may actually turn out to be a viable strategy.

The other day I played as the Breen... basically Breen Domninion and the only craft I made apart from a few A20 near the start were Breen ships, no Dominion craft.  Worked quite well (against the AI).

It can do both.

Breen cruiser/Battleship is a quite viable strat. Also when you use the levelup cheat the game will tell you that are a dirty lil cheat lol

Time To Fire Up My PD Suggestion Again!

Let The Newton's"Pop-Gun" Target Torpedoes, as an automatic passive.  That way it stays armed (It is a mid-line ship) but it uses its weapons to defend while it repairs stuff.

As for the special poll, If it is a ship of mostly engineers, what about (Engineering Team) from the stock game?  It would just be an uber-version of the repair beam.  But hard on the special-weapon energy

A  most indestructible ship, that saves other ships from destruction ... sounds pretty cool BUT heavily reminds me of the generis spectre issues and the repair beam lasts a bit longer tan the shield recharge.

Personally, I think the old way of doing the Newton was best; Repair Team special, while the conventional repair beam also used Special energy. Either you use 1 Repair team or a few repair beams, then wait for it to recharge.

You can't make the repair beam take special energy.  It doesn't actually work that way.

Could be done with a replace weapon though right?

Yeah, the repair beam is actually a classlabel which is hardcoded - hence why it has caused so many issues in the past  :sweatdrop:

I like repair team ideas :) . Newton always has had issues because of its super de-duper hull repairer  :sweatdrop:

I'm sure the Repair beam used special energy in an earlier version of the game... even Torpedoes can be set to use it.

yeah, its hardcoded, so even though it looks like its out of special energy, it is still repairing :whistling:  I had the same problem in my mod.  it just keept repairing even when it ran out of energy...

Was the cost removed because of that bug?
