Romulans
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

I think they are the weakest race in the game. Why the heck have you put so much cost on their units? the cost of over 300 dilithium for a basic destroyer is way exagerated IMO. Same goes for their other ships. And they don't seem to be stronger to compensate. I've just played a quick one vs a dominion AI, in 10 minutes he outnumbered me like 3 to 1 and even though I had both the weapons and shield upgrades(both levels) he wiped the floor with me.Pls note that I had 3 main bases with 1 tritanium and 1 dilithium moon, just like the AI had. Pls correct this!!!

You think wrong. Their early units are by far the best in the game, thats why the high costs. If you dont agree make a test and pit 1 rhienn or shrike against any other destroyer in the game and see what happens.
Plus to that, their late game is very strong with the warbirds, norexan and ofc tavaras (non of which are all that expensive tbh). Just try and play a few more games, you'll get a grip of them

The Intel centre is another advantage they have. That one is worht its resource cost (even if the damage it causes is a joke).

The AI is much more difficult than you may be used to and it can build Much faster than you.

I don't see their ships that strong. I had 16 rhines (8 torp and 8 disruptor refits), 7 D'deridex, 4 griffin and 4 Generix dread refit, I had both upgrade levels for both weapons and shields but my units were getting owned in a few secs.
I have no problem beating the Dominion with the Feds, but with the Romulans it's very hard

no real surprise..
instead of the 16 rhienns, take a mix of generix support and frigate refits and a few leavals (with all the upgrades of course). the rhienns are a good combination for early game, but thats then a better mix of ships for a mid-late game attack fleet. and if your really far into the match, forget the griffin and take the norexians or the tavaras.

The Romulans really are not that bad, though they are better for multiplayer matches when compared to the AI. Being able to cloak and mess with another player's head never gets old... Plus the Tavara is the most powerful battleship in the game, strong enough to take on and beat a Breen Battleship, which comes in a distant 2nd. Of course the Borg ships are powerful but it's impossible to compare to that...
Anyway, I've said it before to people who say "this race sucks!" A race is only as good as the player who controls them. Practice with the rommys and you'll see they are not as bad as you think.

Well Im not sure the Breen battleship is a distant second. Id say that the Dominion dreadnought is a close second, followed by the Federations Phalanx and Descent and then the Breen battleship comes in, together with Sovie and Negh'Var
Though I agree with you, with some practice all races are very good. They just differ how they are played

The Romulans are very powerful. The weakest race in the game by far is the Klingons. They are VERY overcomplicated and underpowered for a "warrior race".

In my opinion the Romulans are the strongest race in the game, right after the borg.
They do have high costs but their ships are very powerful and universal. Early in the game they may have some issues with getting outnumvered but the cloak can compensate for it if used well.
Then, later in the game you don't gain so muck advantage by cloaking as your foe should have Tachyon sensor up by that time, but then there is the Tavara which is a pain in the *ss, it hits strong and it's hard to kill. The Norexans aren't that good if you ask me, but there's the D'Deridex with it's enhanced defense and the Cehaler (or how it's called) with the disruptor bombardment. If you micromanage it, you can even own a few cubes. All of this backed up by Generix Support Refits and you have the strongest fleet in the game, although maybe the most costly too, buti t makes up for it's price.
The Klingons aren't that bad, they just require you to think and play like the Zerg. They have relatively high offensive values and low defensive values + probably the highest shipyard building capacity in the game. You have to build many ships of many types (not the most powerful one only), and try to use hit & run tactics.

i got to say tho the cloak detection tech makes cloaking pointless, i think it needs to be fixed, it would even everything out, cus in the series they cant detect the cloak

To the OP:
The new AI in my opinion is borked anyways. If that was a hard AI and you turned shroud of war off, you'd see that the AI cheats so epicaly that there is no way to keep up with it.

yes but in the show we almost never had a battle with the romies and when we did they were never cloaked. and when they would cloak in battles it was with only a few ships like the Enterprise. besides we are saying that the romulans are to strong the last thing that needs to be fixed about them is cloak, give them that and they would be unstoppable.

Cloak in ST was detected, using a tachyon detection grid(feds) or an antiproton scanner(cardies and dominion). And yes, the AI is so fucked up, it cheats like hell, how the hell he's able to build almost 3 times more ships when he controls 6 moons(3 dil and 3 trit) just like me?

I think I have them figured out. They need to be played totally different form the way you play the other races. For example, the best strategy for me is the following: I always go for the tal'shiar girl avatar(which is btw hot ). She grants the Cehaler and the disruptor bombardment which can really fuck up an enemy fleet. I forget about destroyers and build the Warbird yard, Talshiar Academy and Upgrade Center ASAP. Once the yard is complete, I start pumping out Cehaler and later on, D'deridexes, Norexans and at least one Tavara per fleet. Trying to cap as many moons as I can is crucial. Once I have a fleet of warbirds I build some cruisers and destroyers to back them up(I've noticed that their small craft, although expensive make for excellent support vessels while the warbirds draw enemy fire). I build 10 rihens(5 torp and 5 dis)
6 shrikes, 12 generix(4 of each upgrade type), 2 leahvals(shield recharge does pay off) and 2 Serkas for some kick ass fire support. If I upgrade my weapons and shields at max, this fleet is almost unstopable even by a human player
