yup, thats the way to go 
i play a lil bit different in the beginning but im ending up basicly the same. usually i use the rhienn refits, leavals and generix refits for defense only, while buildingup everything else. and then exchange the rhienns of that defensive fleet with the warbirds for an attack fleet, cause by then, they got almost promoted to the highest rank and gain some lil extras as support for the warbirds. and if the warbirds got their "upgrades" through ranks, the game is almost won, cause not even a tacticalcube can stand this combined power of veterans that long to stop them.
