Kestrel is a bird which fits for Romulan ships but its a Earth bird so technically it shouldn't fit for Romulan  just like the Scimitar and "scorpion" class fighters....  as for people names  many ships are named after famous people scientists, leaders, generals, admirals so even a Galaxy class named  Raymond  would not be implausible  there could be some famous person named Raymond in Star treks time line  and Ray could fit for a trek ship to.

So any of us could be Trek ships and be plausible as long as there no numbers in the name :P

Aside from the fact that they would, because honoring those who give their lives for others (Dominion War) is standard for Starfleet, there has been a non-canon Starfleet Kestrel Class

i know that, in that post i was pointing out how uss ray works better than uss raymond, and how uss ray320 is ridiculous.

Well that doesnt count then does it... doesnt even look federation, and the federation name ships after famous stuff, romulans are not famous so i doubt it would matter what the romulans did in the dom war.

Anyway it would make sense for the devs to use forum member names to use on ships as it would be way easier than making them up randomly, wouldnt mind a devs view on this?

In the majority of cases the ship/station/research/ability names have not been made with the intention of using the 'persona' of people on the forum to my knowledge - in the past there have been a few threads with dozens and hundreds of possible 'realistic' or themed names, and a great deal of those were used.

Using forum goers names has been proposed in the past a few times, but I don't believe it has ever been used. A few easter eggs can be fun, but a whole slew of them is boring in my honest opinion  :sweatdrop:

Looks as Federation as the Defiant and Sabre, making looks a baseless dismissal.

Naming them after famous things also doen't prevent naming after Romulan ships, since they are quite capable of being as famous as any other race and we know none of the Romulan ships and stories from the many unseen battles.

In other words, you're saying Starfleet wouldn't name a ship after something because it's Romulan? That implies they are racist against Romulans, considering they already have a ship with a Klingon name.

It makes sense only in the real world, not in-game.

Makes you wonder: IF you could have a ship named after you, what type would you choose.

When i said that doesnt count then does it that was a reply to the fact it isnt cannon and doesnt actually exist anywhere is the startrek universe so what ever. No it doesnt look federation at all in my opinion it looks like a twisted kirk era ship based around a saber, but what ever its not real so...

Not naming something after someone does not make anything racist you should search the difinition of this and im sure starfleet only names its ships after historical earth history and modern starfleet history eg. the defiant being named after the kirk era defiant and other being named after old historical royal navy ships ect at least thats what iv seen as evidence. Never have i seen ships named after ships they wouldnt even know about that belong to other species, naming a ship has meaning to the federation.

Looks Federation is a baseless concept, as Starfleet has no set design style. It looks just like a TOS version of the Sabre witha flat design similar to the Defiant. Instead of 'not Federation like', why not say what you actually mean; I just don't like it. Canon or not, it's still Star Trek related.

I never said not naming a ship after Romulan stuff makes them racist, not naming something after something Romulan because it's Romulan does. Implying Romulans cannot be famous or do big things also counts. We have few details about the Romulans during the war, so you cannot say they never did anything notworthy. Didn't know about them? They had Romulan ship names listed on casualty reports.

You've obviously never heard of the USS Gorkon, an Excelsior Class named after the Klingon chancellor Gorkon.

The ship doesnt exist and you seem to have lost the point to this arguement, it isnt cannon and therefor does not exist so there is no federation kestrel class ship or a real uss kestrel.

It being startrek related isnt relavant to this discussion, ill draw a stupid looking ship and name it uss tyler the new tyler class destroyer, it doesnt mean its real...

Non-canon is irrelevent here; we're talking about the name of a non-canon ship in FO and what it was named for (you claiming it was you, which is also a non-canon source as you are not part of Trek canon). Canon was never involved in this. A non-canon Kestrel Class is quite on-topic.

The second paragraph is about fanart, which is different from a model. A DIY model, but still a produced model.
