Hey, Guys!

I'm gonna throw in my newer maps here and also post the redone versions of some of the older ones that have had tweaks made.

I'm also VERY pleased to announce that I'm going to be sharing my page with maps made by our own 385.  I will be hosting his maps here and hopefully Phoenix will be willing to let me do the same on his site :).

For Descriptions and more details on all these maps, please go to Phoenix's A2-FO Astrometrics Site.

In an effort to make things as easy as possible, please check the title of the thread frequently.  I will say when something has been updated and I will make a lot of noise about it.  When there IS a new or updated map you should follow these instructions:

1.  Download the map from here or from the Astrometrics site above.
2.  Unzip the .rar file into your BZN folder in your Armada directory.
3.  Overwrite any files that it says already exist as these are old versions and will only cause trouble.
4.  Play and enjoy! (OR BOGGZ WILL FIND YOU )

----------BOGGZ' MAPS -------------

THE FINAL FRONTIER II V1.1: (2/10/11)
  • 3 v 3
  • 18k x 18k
Image will come later when I get it up on Phoenix's Site
So basically FF2 has been updated for 3.1.5.  Changes include starting positions that reflect the way Starbases spawn, terrain / moon adjustments for better balance, as well as a look at how the top team seemed to be at a disadvantage.  Many people had told me that and after looking at a few of the position values I realized that yes, the bottom team was in an easier position :).  I think I have rectified that with movements.

THE POND V1: (10/14/10)
  • 1 v 1
  • 16k x 16k
(I'll have a picture here soon.  For now look at the picture in the attachments.)
(Attempt at making a large 1 v 1 map where the starts are close together but expansions are outside and vulnerable.  Think of it as a mix between Champagne and Early Bird ^-^.)

DUEL II V1.1: (10/13/10)
  • 1 v 1
  • 12k x 12k
Image
(Duel was proven to be favorable to Borg and Federation during the tournament.  I'm hoping that these changes will allow more flexibility in gameplay as well as less ownage by any particular faction.)

CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA V1: (5/12/10)
  • 2 v 2
  • 16k x 16k
Image
(Yes.  I ripped off the Oasis song.  Sue me.  Wait, don't sue me.  PLEASE! :D)

EARLY BIRD V1: (5/12/10)
  • 1 v 1
  • 12k x 12k
Image
(Picture up!  Supposedly there is a small problem with the mutara nebula near top.  I shall investigate!   :detective:)

BADLANDS ENCOUNTER V1: (5/12/10)
  • 3 v 3
  • 20k x 20k
Image
(Released, but a total redo is going to be necessary :()

STAR TRAFFIC V1.2: (5/12/10)
  • 2 v 2
  • 14k x 14k
Image
(V1.1 and V1.2:  Mathematically adjusted the starting positions to be equal to their counterparts across the map.  Many small adjustments have been made to make sure the map starts are as close to equal as possible.)

THIS IS NO CAVE! V1: (5/12/10)
  • 2 v 2
  • 15k x 15k
Image
(Redone with new vibe)
(Please check over for balancing if you feel up to it :))

DUEL V1.1: - **UPDATED** (5/14/10)
  • 1 v 1
  • 12k x 12k
Image
(Top Left Dilithium moon slightly shifted for Klingon Field Yard purposes)
(Middle moons separated to hamper easy defense / make side Exp's more appealing)

RAIN V1.1: - **UPDATED** (6/07/10)
  • 3 v 3
  • 20k x 20k
Image

MALTA II V1: (5/12/10)
  • 1 v 1 v 1
  • 12k x 12k
Image

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------385's MAPS -------------

NEBULA STREAM V1.1: (6/29/10)
  • 2 v 2
  • 15k x 15k
[tt](Image coming soon)[/tt]
(The very same Nebula Stream that is circulating and popular already!  If you don't have it yet, get it here!  :))

All the pictures are uploaded!

Just to clarify:  I'd love feedback on the newer maps and PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEAAAASE let me know if you find bugs or inconsistencies in the older maps that are already standard FleetOps.  Every once in a while they will show up and I am always eager to fix them :).

Well... I would give feedback. But fight now I think with my "lack of expertise". I ain't worthy of such a thing. :whistling:

@ Gamer:  Aww c'mon man!  :D  Throw out your thoughts!  Even if I don't agree with you I'll be more than happy to explain why.  Also, sometimes even the most random of suggestions will open my eyes to maybe something I hadn't noticed before.

You've got tons of experience map-making, that's clear.  I think (sadly) playing online would give you a better idea of what it is that human players are naturally attracted to or repelled by.  I know you can't get online, but that's what WAY changed my map-making tendencies.

@ Arash:  Nah I haven't checked yet.  I have an hour or so here so I'm gonna fix the little mistakes.  I'll take a look now ;).  EDIT:  I just looked at it and actually there is no break in the blocking ... there is an unbroken chain of blocking that rings in the nebula in the center.  Clearly there are small spots on top and bottom where a ship can hide if necessary, but there are no actual breaks that would let a ships get in and get stuck.  That must have been a glitch I guess.  We'll have to keep out eyes open for it :).

I'll look at them.

Edit:

@ TNC

I believe the idea of this cave thing. It is interesting. But its just a puzzle in itself exactly which moons go with which. I am not even sure if there is an even number. Though what I see most is the same method of separation. There should be some variety at what splits the moon pairs to make it more interesting. Because if I were to play it, I know there's a moon on the other side of the asteroids. Because asteroids is the only thing that divides them.

@ Badland
I believe that this does have some interesting features as to path, though what I'd like to see more of is red. The badlands in canon was all yellow, orange, and red. And since we don't have yellow or orange, I'd like to see red. :)

@ Bird

Early bird..... I do not understand, this seems like a very, very small 1 vs 1. Not that much to explore, and not too much time before you run into the other guys. And I start out slow, so it doesn't really fit my style. But I'm sure all those warp speed builders would love it. :whistling:

@ Star Traffic

I always get the feeling Star Traffic needs something. I have no idea what, but I know it needs something. Sorry if this doesn't help. :'(

@ Rain
I always liked it how it came with the game (aka. b4 the middle moons were stretched apart). It was nice.

@Malta II
Ever thought of making a Malta III? Because I dunno where to start. The Green nebula in there I don't think helps with strategy as much, a fluid or mutara might be better. The way how the starting moon pairs are positioned I personally don't like because I am a person that builds in tight fit configuration, and how it is just really makes it difficult with some building and organizing (Unless the more loose pair is the starter set, it has been quite a while).

@FF II
Just fine, no problems with it. Unlike FF I. That thing only looked half finished.

@ Duel
Eh, nice. To me, if you want my opinion, put a third player slot smack in the middle. And maybe a two more dil moons. Somehow I always thought an unpaired dil moon always would be nice (especially for Dom Ketracel mining)

Just put up a new 2 v 2 map!!

  Champagne Supernova! :D

Even though it will look obviously like a Left v Right map, I highly suggest y'all try it as a Top v. Bottom.

I did???

Oh shit!  Maybe I accidentally deleted the new version!   :ermm:   heh ... do YOU have the new version by any chance?  :D

EDIT:  Fixed the upload.  I changed the picture on the original post but never bothered to upload the new map itself.  *shoots self in head*

You know you're really right about the puzzling nature of it.  It's confusing and complicated and hard to know where you're supposed to go :).  I usually don't care for maps like that, but I got bored of making maps that were very simple.  I wanted to try and make something that you might actually have to explore a bit.

I do assure you though, that all the moons are placed equally.  Not every one is mirrored, but each starting point has an equal number of each kind of moon.

@ Badland
I believe that this does have some interesting features as to path, though what I'd like to see more of is red. The badlands in canon was all yellow, orange, and red. And since we don't have yellow or orange, I'd like to see red. :)

Yeah I agree here as well.  The idea was not to create a FULL badlands map (as too many nebulae just screw with pathing too much).  Again I modified it a bit and didn't especially like what I came up with.  Right now in MP the 4 players in the top left tend to battle it out and the two "(nebula players) end up getting ignored.

@ Bird

Actually it's really not that small.  The minimap is misleading :).  The time it takes to go around the center island is about the same as it takes to cross "Duel" :D.  I wanted to try a "Back to Back" map and I think it's worked out pretty well so far.  Most of the guys online playing it have enjoyed it.  It's kind of neat to reverse the way you look at the map.

@ Star Traffic

I always get the feeling Star Traffic needs something. I have no idea what, but I know it needs something. Sorry if this doesn't help. :'(

Well hey, as soon as you figure it out lemme know :D.  Right now it needs to be slightly adjusted as the bottom left corner is stretched out a bit more than the top right.

@ Rain
I always liked it how it came with the game (aka. b4 the middle moons were stretched apart). It was nice.

But I haven't changed it yet! :D  The way it comes with the game is still the way it is for now :).

@Malta II

Actually I've avoided putting Mutara or Fluid Nebula into any of my maps because (especially on small ones) it causes a HUGE imbalance for Borg.  I don't know if you remember but one of the first versions of Malta II had Fluid Nebula ringing the center in patches.  It was quickly discovered that it was a Borg paradise and broke the map easily.  The tiny Crystalid Nebs do help a lot because you can siege an enemy base, then retreat to that as a proxy repair yard instead of running all the way back to your own base :).

@FF II
Just fine, no problems with it. Unlike FF I. That thing only looked half finished.

  I agree

@ Duel

Haha well then it wouldn't be a DUEL would it? :D

Hmm ... I'm interesting by your idea of an extra moon here and there.  What do you think about maybe having a dilithium moon and tritanium moon pair on either side, completely split, but more easily accessible before moving to a FULL expansion on the sides or middle?

Boggz, are you aware that your Star Traffic map on Astrometrics haves incorrect starting positions? There is a group of angry Fleet Operators that have downloaded it (because the UAC doesn't allow ingame downloads) and you can imagine their surprise when they saw the starting locations on the latest version.
posted on June 3rd, 2010, 6:37 pm
yeah!!! boggz u tit. i deleted the old one so that i could download in game from zebh. uac wasnt my problem the existing file was then it turned out the top left starting position was gone. fix it or we will eat u.

Wait what??  :( :(

I'm confused!!!  There's only ever been 1 version of Star Traffic .... that's strange.

The one listed here is the one that I have on my own computer and it is is 100% fine :).  Please DL this one here and replace whatever you have with it.

I'll check out Astrometrics and see what I can do :).
