Scimitar Probably Wouldn't be too unbalanced; the enterprise roughed it up pretty good, and it's probably about even with that other big lug the rom's have, which doesn't have any trouble smashing a sovereign...
Couple cannons, couple fighter bays... that thing would be sweet.

Scimitar was unbalanced, even for a movie supership. Enterprise only lasted that long and was able to damage it because Shinzon didn't want Enterprise destroyed; he wanted Picard. By the time he decided to just go all-out, the damage was done.

Plus, Picard took advantage of Shinzons arrogance.

It couldn't Be As Tough As A Tactical Cube.  As for the movie, my 'definition of roughed up' can certainly refer to mild shield damage, which is what they managed early on.  Then, after that sad ramming attempt, they finally got around to using their secret weapon.  Which secret weapon, you might be asking?  This One:

I would bet on Shinzon didn't charge the full power when firing on Enterprise.
Also, what does the T-cube needs his toughness for when he can't adapt to a perfect cloak?

Ok, first of all. Really nice Mod. Never seen such a good mod as Fleet Ops!

The actual effects are ok. Nice to see that new effects are on work.
But i have one suggestion. If you make new effects, please rise the performance of the game first.

Yesterday, we played a mp. 4 players vs. 3 ki players. After some bulding of turrets and any ships, the game starts hard lagging if a ki-attack was in progress (about 20 ships trying to break the base defense).
You even can't controll ships, because of lagging while turrets fireing...

I have same noticed in singleplayer.
PC Specs... Intel E8200 (2x2,67 Ghz), 4 GB RAM, ATI HD5850. Should be enough to play the game in 1920x1200 i think.

What's this ki thing?  Is that your term for AI?

  And if you were playign 4 players vs. 3 ki players were you playing on a network or over the internet?  Internet connections can have a big part of that.

  As for your resolution ... that's a pretty high res ... what is your graphics card?

First, sorry for the KI (bad germans :D)  thing. Of course i mean AI.

We have played over Internet (GameSpy).

But the Problem in this case was NOT the internet.
The performance problem is in singleplayer present, too. If there is a larger amount of ships and stations in game, the whole game begin to lag, if a attack action is in progress.

My Graphics-Card is a brand new ATI HD5850 (1024 MB RAM, full specs see google). 1920x1200 is not really hard. I can play Crysis or Battlefield Bad Company 2 in this high resolution without any problems, i think, armada 2 eg. fleet-ops, should be playable too.

Hi and welcome to the forums,

armada has some performance issues, and especially the Borg explosions cause a little laging at the moment. we are working hard on it, but it will take a bit more time for that to accomplish :)

Thx for reply Optec.

Please do not mistake that. I like the nice graphics and the gameplay. My first tought in the first match was, "wow nice graphics and interface", the second one was "uhh but its laggy".

I only want ro remind, that better effects can cause greater lags, especially on older systems.
If this is the case, in my opinion the team should raise performance ingame before release the effects ;)

"A little lagging"?

When two Borg ships blow up, my computer freezes and it takes several minutes to recover. If there are more than two Borgs involved in a battle, I make a coffee break.

Similarly, with enough torpedoes in the air, so to speak, the effect is similar but not as brutal.

we are working on the engine - as you might have noticed by looking at the screenshots - and we are on our way to increase performance along with adding new effects. the explosion-lag-issue is sadly not that easy to fix, so it will take more time

When a friend and me play, we simply modify (backup first) our ART_CFG.h file, replacing lines 15 through 21 as follows:
Code: Select all
// Storm3D chunk manager parameters.
int   ST3D_CHUNK_MANAGER_MAX_CHUNKS = 900;
float ST3D_CHUNK_SIZE_FACTOR = 0.1;
float ST3D_CHUNK_LIFETIME_AVG = 0.1;
float ST3D_CHUNK_LIFETIME_DEVIATION = 0.0;
float ST3D_CHUNK_MAX_ANGULAR_VELOCITY = 0.1;
float ST3D_CHUNK_MAX_VELOCITY = 9.0;

Lag is pretty much gone from the explosions...on the trade off side though, we don't see any debris, just the explosion effect.

hey, dont complain, your pc is better than mine^^

but i dont understand your borg problem you have, on hich graphics settings do you play (i always play on lowest^^)

Yes.

The only thing I have not turned on, or on "high" setting is anti-aliasing.

If I use that, even on the lowest setting, the initial setup ( starbase + 2 builders + scout ) makes my computer crawl as soon as I send the scout to explore, i.e. select it and hit the "E" key.

Without anti-aliasing I can play normally as long as battles don't involve Borg ships or too many ships, regardless of faction.
