One question I've been meaning to ask:  Will long ranged vessels that are only forward firing and do not have a 360 degree arc be considered long-ranged tactical vessels?  I would think their limited arcs would already balance them out since they can't fire while retreating.  For example, will a standard rhienn take the extra damage from interceptors like its refit will?

That's a good question.  It's VERY easy for them to choose which vessels receive what percentage of damage so I would assume that a vessel with a limited firing arc and slow speed (Bombers, Disruptor Rhienns) might not take QUITE so much damage from interceptors.  Refitting them to be badass 360 attackers could easily increase the damage they take though.

Good point, Mal!  ^-^

That's what I'm hoping for.  It wouldn't make sense to me to make all long ranged vessels suffer, just the ones with 360 degree arcs.  And rhienns are going to be slower anyway.  It'll be interesting to see what a late game refit for them is going to be like.

I think it will be interesting to see all the stuff in the next edition :sweatdrop:

but good points

Aye, I completely concur Mal and Boggz: I expect that might have to be the case too, as Romulans don't get any early interceptors I think (asides from the Shrike if I remember correctly), and those Rhienns would go down very fast if that weren't the case.  :sweatdrop:

In fact it might be very interesting to see the unrefit Rhienn be classified as an interceptor itself until the Refits come along.  Then it would actually be very useful to keep some Rhienn's un-refit while others become monsters later in the game.  :D

I do love some of Boggz's ideas

An interesting suggestion, but that might be problematic given their long range - then they just become similar to the B'rel. I think the Leahval is more suited to an interceptor type role, but then again, the Romulans were never very fast  :sweatdrop:

I believe you are correct though Boggz: I think the refitted Rhienn should lose something when refitted. Perhaps the unrefitted does much more damage to destroyers and when it refits - it loses its pulse weapons. That way there is incentive to still produce it to deal death blows to Sabers etc. Not sure on this one though :)

EDIT: stuttering

Indeed.  An incentive to retain at least a FEW un-refitted Rhienn's would be nice and perhaps losing something like speed or an ability that only the original has would do nicely and keep people building those sexy Rhienn's while refitting only when it's necessary.

I would like to see the Leahval have a more distinct purpose.  At the moment they seem to be Cruiser-ambushers which is a pretty cool idea, but because of their short range I rarely see them get used adequately in MP play.

And I agree, the Rhienn shouldn't be too much like the B'rel ;)
