I like this idea a lot, especially the scaling up for later game, that's one thing that will be a great improvement, keeping your earlier game ships useful later. especially as the relationship between torp miss rates and size is going to disappear.
Also, I seriously hope there will be an attack pattern alpha.
On a related note, are there plans for group patterns/specials? eg have 3 ships grouped together to grant a new button for an attack pattern.

Interesting. I like how that one ability can be used several ways. Keep the details coming.
EDIT - Hey, is that a new map?

Hi. I like it. This makes sense and is good news considering the tricobolt special won't really make any sense with the steamrunner class coming back. This poses an interesting follow up question though. Fed/Borg mix tech includes Interpid's with graviton/tricobolt explosives. So does that mean that mix tech is now of the board? Will the steam runner end being the one with a mixed torpedo load?

Forgive my spelling in the second last sentence. Here's how it should have looked; So does that mean that mix tech is now off the board?

Steamrunner isn't an artillery ship anymore, that's the newer Warp-In that does that. Any ship can have an artillery weapon and not muscle in on its territory.
Though they did mention leaving an artillary version as a map object.

To answer a few questions
:
Yup, you can bet there is an Attack Patterns - we should have a cover on her fan-favorite owner vessel soon
.
Mixed tech will be making a return with a complete facelift - we are not yet certain if it will be in our next version, or in a content patch for it

Just wanted to voice out and commend the ongoing work of the devs, and all those working on the FO project. I know we've all been waiting a long time for this new release, but it goes without saying that the time work and effort of the team is well worth the wait. Particularly, with ideas like this, and many others to create a feel for each race that offers a different experience in game and allows great variation of play across the board. The fact that we all have our favourite races, and that we all have reasons for playing our preferred race without being right or wrong as they are all equally playable (although there is right and wrong, and you were right if you picked Klingon because they kick a$$ and all others were wrong
). Despite some issues in balance that arise while trying to maintain this, to whatever legitimate degree the claim is, the devs certainly provide a game of great interest and is packed with full of treats from visuals to audio and probably a whole lot of technical stuff a lot of us wouldn't be able to do anything with (and maybe some of us who could). Between now and the release, they can just keep letting out these teasers to egg us on. Think everyone in the community agrees, teams doing a really great job.

Thank you for this news post!
Maybe a "pattern suicide" for Defiant class?
(I'll eat a cookie in honour of the first to get that reference)

Wow, this is awesome. Almost ten years later, and you guys are still full of surprises. I hope this resurgance of news posts mean that you're gearing up for a release soon.
