Yes! I have implemented both designs at different times in my own personal mods. Both are great Ideas.

ok as monday has passed i will be developing idea two as it is the overall winner...
since people also liked idea one, once two is complete will add the ability for first one to work partially alongside idea 2...
what i need now is designs for the federation...
basically three outpost designes, three starbse ones and three dreadnaught ones...
if your asking why three, because a starbase that is all offense wont look like a defensive one, it will have phaser arrays and torp launchers and so one... whilst the defensive one will have loads of hull plating to take a beating and point defense systems...
for system it will be similar to defensive only system yards will have the ability to also repair ships, so got to find a way to slide a repair part in it...
please post any design

Ok, you start with a standard outpost "scaffolding" from there you decide what set up you want. Repair yard vs repair ship. 4 turrets and two sensors, or whatever. Pure tech or mixed, depending on your allies. And then size, for maximum defenses and stuff. Basically the same s the others.

i dont think you quite get what im doing adm.zaxxon...
its not like you just described and doesnt use research pods to create extra modules... it works like borg modules, it will be better expressed when i have a template up, just need statiosn designs and need to work work out in which spirite the co-ordinations for module selection is stored...

Where is the Spacedock going in all this? That wouldn't look any different for offense or defence.

Hmm, without knowing exactally how the borg modules work, or how you want them to work I guess I can't offer any good suggestions

i know exactly what i want and mostly how to do it incuding creating my own modules for the starbase system... the problem im having is finding the gui file where you set what texture for the modules to actually use...
well the defensive spacedock will look like ur normal spacedock, the offensive one will look more agressive and have less mass and crew as its a war spacedock so its runs on the principle of the defiant, small quaters, no luxuries... and the system as it will hae repair fuctions will also look slightly different from ur default spacedock, got to think out the box...
so once again im taking design ideas and if anyone who knows more about gui then me can help me lcoate these buttons i'll appreciate it

For the federation the base station then upgrading makes better Flow for the Federation than building a purpose built station. However for the other races the second option makes better sense
Some Starbases Designs that I like ,and you might want to try are the ones from Starfleet Command III . I'll pull the bmp files for each of the races from the game and post as soon as I can find them for you.

what bout the borg?
aer we finally going to see a unimatrix style massive complex? that would be cool.
instead of allowing he additional parts to be destroyed separately, we should have all parts adingto and augmenting the central structure's defense.
if we have ever seen earth 2160's eurasian dynasty's base build format, it is perfectly borg. it even allows modularization and self placement of structures so that no one base is alike.

i have played earth 2160 but i dont think were be seeing that build style, im merely offering the chasis style build of the borg for outpost/starbase/deep space station...

Actually I looked into the way the Klingon yards are built and it isn't that hard to recreate. I created a central unicomplex where different ship specific yard are built. the only problem is I couldn't get the mining stations, or repair yards working, however the way the borg work in fo neither of these issues are a problem.

but it will still suffer from the fact that if the main station is gone it will all fall apart, also would take a lot of careful model making... it is actually easily possible to one extent but i prefer the flops way as you got less chance of loosing everything...

that particular design will already be used to the fed defensive starbase, im looking for alturnative designs for the other outposts and starbases and some creative ideas for the DSS
