Basically the question is this, we all know that the multiplayer system isnt the best, my question is, is it possible for the devs to mess with this system in a patch to make it better?

Better how?

I believe if the dev team can make the multiplayer experience simpler to use, the world will be talking about this game.
For instance,
1)If the developers can make a seamless integration between tunngle and multiplayer such as LAN connection that intrinsically incorporates Tungle, it would be freakin awesome.
2) getting the game to be faster with less lag is also a big multiplayer issue.
Otherwise, mad respect do Doca Cola and the dev. team.

Yeah lag is a big issue, and i just think that seeing as mupltiplayer, is probably the most popular and funnest part of fleetops, seeing as there is no campaign, itd be nice if the devs could do somthing with it.

The devs are always working on all fronts all the time - there were already some multiplayer improvements in 3.1.2

Well what im saying is just making a patch thats dedicated to multiplayer, because i think most of us can agree, that the multiplayer atm is less then good.

It's actually better than it's ever been. There's sadly a lot of people with older computers/bad connections, and Doca hasn't figured out a way to write a program that instantly upgrades everyone's PC yet. If you think about it, it's pretty impressive that we can even have seamless games with people all over the world. 50 years ago, no one would have thought that possible. But like Dom said, they are and are continuing to work on the net code, so you're getting your wish.

I hope they introduce their own "gamespy"-substitute someday. I absolutly dislike the external VPN-tools.

i disliked wippien a great deal but tunngle i can start whenever i choose so its not so bad. I love these kind of posts about recoding the system.

I'm pretty sure this is what Robe1kenobe plays on.

There will be some additions to multiplayer in the next patch, but general problems like potential lags and the like are nothing to fix over-night we are working on it like we always did, but those are very tricky topics

comparing FO to other RTS games i can say its relatively fine. All rts games have lag issues (coh, dow2 and even sc2 have lags). sometimes it has nothing to do with player's computers and connection. for instance i was able to play on gamespy/manul ip/wippien/tunngle with almost all European players without lag but had a terrible conn with DN and i know DN has a better conn then some EU players i've played.
imo there are too many 3v3 and 4v4. play more 1v1

That is what i am working on with the guys from Tunngle right now. The current Fleet Operations dev version has the integration already, and it seems to work fine so far. It automates the whole login and network joining process (and informs the user where to get tunngle if not installed). It currently works only with an non-public beta version of Tunngle though, as the Tunngle API is still under testing.
