Well, post them in ideas/suggestions. Maybe the ideas are unbalanced or previously proposed but it is also possible that your idea is nothing short of a precious gem.

Honestly, the only thing good about an ignore function is that you can avoid posts by nationalistic idiots with page long post of copypasta who don't seem to be manifesting themselves here much anyway.
Other than that, it's just gonna make the users go to extra efforts if they actually want to see a suggestion from someone they're ignoring.
And popularity conteststhumbing was already covered so I'll just sign under DOC's first paragraph.
Honestly, if you don't like a user that much that you actually don't want to hear anything from them, you can do that by simply...you know...not reading their posts.

Having a blacklist function could easily lead to abuse. I understand why it would be desired(I have on several occasions wanted to just bypass a post) but it would probably cause more issues that it solves.

@ Old_Time_Pro - I think you already have credibility with Borg. When I think of how to stop a Borg early game attack I think "How would I stop Old Time's attack?" I do not think it is luck. There may be balance tweaks coming, but I do not think that the current state of balance is the reason you do so well.

Not really.
What he's suggestion is pretty much an ignore function. All it'd do is prevent the user to see the posts of those he wouldn't want seeing. Probably by hiding the post behind a button you'd have to open before viewing.

That won't happen once the new patch is out...  :whistling:

Had to remove a few ad hominem posts.

Please keep things respectful and leave the personal discussions to the private message system, thank you.

I was thinking that there was a bit more to the proposal - having a function to that puts a person's post in a hidden state but still easily accessible would be ok. I am concerned that this sort of thing could cause hostility on some occasions, but I may be worrying too much.

Probably the simplest thing is to just skip the post if you do not what to read what the person is writing.

That.

The only reason for blocking/ignoring someone should not be to ignore their opinion, but to stop off-topic and insulting attacks on other members. But there are already things in place for precisely that eventuality: moderators for the forums, and a block list for PMs.

Personally I don't thinkk the forum is big enough for an ignore feature.

Yes there may be people you don't like here, but if you didn't ever see what they do on the forum, then you are making the population artificially smaller. We really don't want that, ever. Fleet ops is great, but it's not advertised, people have to come looking for it.
People are also complicated. Very rarely will someone only post to troll. More often than not, sometimes they maybe get frustrated or feel in a silly mood and post something that annoys other people occasionally, or what is viewed as a troll maybe be very important to the poster, and they are welcome to their own opinion.

I don't think there is anyone on this forum who doesn't have useful points to make, and I really mean that. I've seen plenty of posts I don't agree with, but that doesn't make them wrong or worthy of blocking.

What I think this forum could do with is a couple more moderators. Not police officers, but just there to let people know that personal attacks are notokay, even they aren't intentionally hurtful or insulting, language barriers + the internet can lead to all kinds of misunderstandings. And we could all be a bit more tolerant of people's opinions.

My 2 cents (pennies really)

Although in theory this is a bad idea, some sites (such as slashdot) have pulled it off with some success, through a vote up/down system and a very complicated moderation system. This community IS too small for that.

I will have to say that all the personal insults and lack of restraint are slowly driving me (and most likely others) away. If the community here keeps lashing out at people in a personal manner, especially if they are not moderated, you may find yourself with a smaller community...

MrXT, you have proved my point exactly by agreeing with me :D

The problem is the internet throws a lot of people together who are not from the same place, where customs and culture norms are sometimes drastically different, not people mention people are incredibly different anyway.
Thus it's not surprising that there is a difference of opinion cropping up every now again, it's just how we deal with those cases that is under review.

And that's why I think more moderation would be a good idea. Jan and Dom and the Devs are great, but they can't be everywhere at once, and the Devs shouldn't have to trouble themselves by moderating their own forum when they could be making Fleet Ops even more awesome than it is.

If we look at the way they moderate, I think it's perfect. No blame placing, no harsh words, just gentle warnings followed by a thread lock in extreme cases. I'm sure there are a few regular posters on this forum who would be up to that, if the Devs think it's a good idea. It seems natural to me that as the community increases, so will the number of Mods.

I agree with you Mayhem. The internet is a melting pot of people and sometimes it does not mix smoothly or quickly. It is hard to remember sometimes that we can easily come off differently than we want. So many things are based on our point of view and sometimes staying calm is difficult. It has been for me at times. Hopefully by moderating comments, considering how we may sound to others, and staying patient we can all do our part to keep the boards pleasant for everyone.
