Most powerful Country in Europe in History

After some fights on Youtube I wanted to know what you guys think of it. "The most powerful country in Europe" Of course it doesn't include the Roman Empire or prior; or any middle eastern countries (Ottomans).
Note: It includes military but also all the other Factors like Economy, Culture, Technology, Philosophy etc...

When you can pls write a reason (if you want to ) this is completely Subjective and I don't want comments like "I hate France because......" Or even "England Beats all by far because......."
I want this to be seen by on both sides, as in when you rate take everything into acount.
You can vote 3 times (1 for your country if in Europe and you want to, 2 If you think a country is tied with that one, 3 If you think this one's tie with the other 2

why not involve the americans? they make particularly funny patriotic flaming.

Today... Germany is 1st, and France is 2nd

UK is in serious economic and political crisis - they dont even know how big this stuff is. I'm not sayin that those two are paradise on earth. They have serious problems of their own, but at least they still have some serius industry that is really making something.

But in general, most of the Europe and westrn hemisphere in general - going free fall down.

Imagine the moment in time when Chinese government decide to nationalize all what's in their country...  and the rest of the world could do S*** about that.

In History Germany on the land, UK on the sea.

There is no really powerful country in Europe today.
Germany would come to mind in the way of having more money may be but honestly, since Germany always pays "saving funds" to other countries when having dangerously bad economics Germany doesn't get along with its own funds (meaning saving the currency "Euro" from inflation). It's always about the next economical crisis and our count of unemployed people or people being employed under stupid conditions really makes you wonder what's going on.

America's not part of europe 
When I think of it Italy is a great cultural nation but not so great in everything else (no offence)

Germany is the best country EVER. We have the best beer and our wine is not the manipulated booze you get in the US. U jelly, bro? 

Srsly, from an economic POV we probably are the most powerful country in Europe. When it comes to the military, well... France does have nuclear weapons, so... I guess they're better. I'd exclude Russia, though - it's more asian that european.

I voted Germany, but everyone knows that America is the best in the worldz.   In Europe though, Germany takes the cake, even if it is a lie.

America - well USA is the most powerful country from the military view - with one key problem. USA has long supply lines - there is no place in the states with high concentration of quality military equipment. USA is like training polygon for operations around the world. The Roman empire syndrome.

Hmm, in history one can hardly regard Germany as being a very strong country overall. Germany exists since 1871, very late compared to the others'. Funny thing that Austria is in the list but not Italy.
Too bad you exclude pre middle ages time.
If you take the holy roman empire one could say that it was quite strong concerning the military, but since they never united they couldn't use that strength. And culture-wise they've always been behind France. I wouldn't take out Russia, because in history their most important parts were in Europe. They got to Asia because of colonisation, saying they are more Asian is like saying Britain is more African .
I'd probably vote for Britain, since they weren't really conquered but conquered the whole world and always had a strong military and culture. Well, there is not much left of that today, though .

Id have to say UK for both military, Culture and technology and i can say this because i am russian.

The UK is also the only country in europe that has both a miltary capable of fighting and the will to fight, who else has both of these? besides the US who are not in europe.... you cant really choose anyone else and anyone who does doesnt know what they are talking about but good on you for being patriotic about your own country even tho it doesnt do anything for anyone.

England and France strike me as being the strongest politically; maybe Russia too, but for less good reasons. Militarily though I think England has the rest of Europe beat. I mean they're really the only country that hasn't been invaded (unless you count the Norman invasion in 1066 which is ancient history) and they can take a beating but still turn around and unload a can of whoopass.

We all know how good the French army is: French Military History 

Of course America is still No. 1 on the planet.

I say England (UK) as in military it hasnt been invaded since i  think 1066 (and then that was against bad odds) they also can deliver serious blows and take a beating. Econily there still fairly okish considering there one of the main European countries who have kept there currency. and lets not forget the History of the UK with its trade, Empire (apart from the romans i dnt think any other country in Europe had an huge international empire and i beleive but could be wrong the Brittish Empire was larger than the Roman Empire) and other stuff. Also lets not forget the Commonwealth which HRH Queen Elizabeth II is currently the head of

Well I would say the UK because it has the most powerful military in Europe, plus they are still a very powerful economy without the dragging of the Euro to bail out all those failing countries which France and Germany have to worry about
