I just want to see the UK and France go to war, so that you have to come up with a plan on how to share an aircraft carrier.
"Ok, we get the carrier Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. >:( And you get it from Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. We rotate Sundays! >:("
"Oui! >:( Mais nous....would like to have le carrier this Sunday pour operation..."Death to English Kinigits!".... I mean, er ..... we wish to play badminton on the deck....errrr.... we won't attack you!

nah we will kick them off, since they are frogs they can swim home... the SAS will steal the carrier, mwuahahaha....
or maybe we can have half the boat each, since one carrier must be between france and england at all times we can have one side each and attack each other that way.

LOL....nice one Tok'ra. I voted England and Germany. England is the most powerful over time. Their military was one of the most powerful in the world for quite awhile. But during WWI and WWII, Germany's production of supplies and weapons was so fast they became one of the, historically, biggest/most powerful military forces the world has ever seen. The only thing more impressive than their rise to military power throughout most of WWII was the technological advances and production that occurred in the U.S. as a response to Pearl Harbor.
If a major war like WWII happened again, I don't see any country or military power keeping up with the increases in technological growth and production compared to the resources of the time. Massive credit to the work ethic of the past....on both sides.

If a world war happend again, there would be no industry to bother with, as the world would be glassed.

HAHA. That would be epic. War is bad, but this would be worth it.

Hmm, should I take Germany for Goethe and Brecht now?
Seriously, I think military is overrated in this discussion. Yes, the fascists had a strong military, but their economy sucked and culture was forbidden. Especially today I regard military as nonsense, the USA are going down because of their military costs, just like the Soviet Union and the third Reich did. All of these Empires tried to save themselves with wars, which made and makes everything even worse.
I tend to agree though, that the UK were very successful throughout history, although they lost everything in the end, from America to India.

Well, this is a discussion about power. Military is the easiest way to exert power over other nations. Hence this is largely a military discussion.

Let's leave the military out... military is boring anyways. I'd say the culturally most powerful country in Europa is clearly France. Italy close second. Germany third.

Even culturally. The Royal Navy is an ace the the UK camp which spans centuries of culture and ceremony. At it's height, the RN represented the single most powerful organisation in history, encompassing a wide variety of trades and people, not just the better known military side. One of my favourite eras is The Age of Sail where Britain's influence spanned the entire world. No internet, no phones, just lots of tea. I like the pomp of the latter part of the Victorian period and the turn of the 20th century.
The grandeur was shown through epic architecture and ship design. I don't know about any of you, but I consider HMS Victory to be a work of art! The ironic thing is that the design for HMS Victory was actually of French Origin! Another fave of mine is Titanic. It's just a bloody shame it sank.
I could bore you all with details about The Age of Sail, The Industrial Revolution and the rivalry between Cunard and White Star Line. However, I won't.
