this is a video of the polaron field. we all know it does way too much pwnage as it is. thats not the reason i posted it

i am asking about the visual effects when a ship's engines go down. as you can see in this video when the engines of the descent die it is sitting perfectly still. but after a second or two without engines it just starts spinning wildly. while this would be nice if the ship was moving, i think when a ship is still it shouldn't do that. is this a bug or is it designed?

Looks like it's the old A2 engine acting up (or perhaps the AI tried to move at that exact moment, as I can't recall if I notice it with human controlled units). ![Drop :sweatdrop:](/forum/images/smilies/sweatdrop.gif)
Incidentally, you have the decommission noise constantly cycling - there are ways to remove it if you didn't know how![Azn ^-^](/forum/images/smilies/happy.png)
Oh, and lastly - don't you love how the Descent was reduced to yellow crew levels - looked to be about half the initial complement![Cry :crybaby:](/forum/images/smilies/crybaby.gif)

The engines thing is especially annoying because I once had a Tactical Cube that got hit by a Dominion Bug. It spun like crazy until the engines got back online. It looked really stupid, both because Borg definitely shouldn't have engines that go offline from such a small impact and that the Cube is so massive that Bug would had to have exerted a lot of energy to make it spin so fast.

i know that is annoying, for me it wont disappear unless i actually get rid of the yard. simply attacking the yard doesnt work for some reason. the funny thing is i didnt even decomission any ships. can u point me to the audio file to delete, and will that break mp capability?

I'm not sure if it'll break multiplayer compatibility, but I don't think it will - if you repair a vessel with that yard the noise will go away too ![Azn ^-^](/forum/images/smilies/happy.png)
It's probably called decom.wav or something similar.

nothing has been changed on that effect. so i assume that is coming from good old armada itself.
yes, i know i know, the armada repair sound bug is still on to do![Smiley :)](/forum/images/smilies/smile.png)

its called repairing.wav
the sound also plays for repairs, not just decoms. its in the data/sounds/effects directory.
i vote for removing the sound altogether, or if the game wont accept its absence replace it with a file without sound.

No sound works for me. Why do we hear that, anyway? There's no reason for so much noise from repairs.

i think the sound was supposed to only play during the repair or decom. to indicate repair or decom was happening.
i got used to the droning lol.
im testing on tunngle now if removing the file totally breaks the compatibility.
checked, removing that file completely has no effect on mp

You mean 'had as much time'? Others have deadlines to work with, FO has as much time as it needs. Not that I'm denying that they're good at it.

our devs do this in their spare time and dont get paid for it yet still exceed all my expectations. that says something about them.
they release quite often as well. compared to patches for other games.

As Myles said, the devs do this in the time they have leftover from jobs, school, and other real life stuff.
EDIT: not to mention that they themselves have to pay for it (new software, hosting fees etc )
