Will this conversion work if I create a copy of my existing Armada 2 install and drop it in over that? I want to leave an intact copy of of Armada 2 as well as have this mod. I apologize in advance if this has already been answered. I couldn't come up with search terms that got me relevant results.

yep, just chose "delete target directory contens" in the installer once you selected your copied folder

Cool. I've done similar things with another game, but Escape Velocity: Nova is a much simpler game than Armada 2 in terms of graphics and files, so I wasn't sure. Thanks for the quick response.

if your intention is just to have a copy of both armada 2 and fleetops on the same computer then that is really easy without needing any copying of directories.

when u install fleetops with all the default settings it doesnt interfere with your copy of armada 2 in any way. both will be present, both will have start menu icons etc and neither will bother the other, they will be in separate install folders.

so basically just install fleetops with default settings and your armada 2 install will be untouched.

welcome to the forums!

I actually discovered I could do that when I first ran the installer. I had a hint of it when I noticed that it said it didn't need an existing install of Armada 2 or FleetOps. So I tried and wouldn't you know it, it worked. Now if I could just figure out a way to get some of these graphics into my regular Armada 2 install...

somebody around here had a project for making armada 2 with fo graphics but still plays like vanilla a2

That would be exactly the sort of thing I'd like to do. These graphics are so much better. In the original A2, it looked like they just added some graphics to Armada and changed the interface a little. Wasn't exactly happy that I couldn't rearrange the interface like I could in the original Armada, either.

i guess optec confused the issue when he made his statement. myles is of course absolutely right. a pre-installed armada is not required - then of course the armada 2 cd is. plus fleet operations can be installed in parallel to any stock armada 2 installation.

Yeah, I figured that out. The thread has rather departed from its original topic. Now we're talking about getting FleetOps graphics into A2, but still playing the stock campaign.

For that you'd have to talk to Blade :D He's working on a project that brings FO into A2 :)

That would be great. I would, as I said LOVE to have FO graphics on the A2 stock campaign. Or even just a way to have single player in FO and import the A2 campaign for that. Although I'm not sure how that would work exactly, as I'm pretty sure it would take some new meshes as a number of A2 era ships simply do not appear in FO. Still, I wouldn't mind the construction ships looking different. The A2 ones are so...blah. Of them, only the Klingons have the sense to arm theirs. But the A2 version does NOT fit the Klingon ship design ethic. Nor does the A2 Romulan constructor fit. Romulans like to make ships that look like various birds of prey.

arming a con ship isnt a popular idea, i mean they should always be escorted anyway. well after the first expansion that is.

also i think there are people working on getting campaign for fo.

The Klingons wouldn't agree with you on that. But oddly, even Borg construction vessels are unarmed. Not that Borg aren't already hard enough to kill, but you would think they would want to arm their constructors simply because having one destroyed by small craft would be...inefficient.

The unarmed construction ship is just a game role thing, just like the Steamrunner lacking a phaser. Civilian ships are armed in the show, but this isn't an exact duplicate of the show.

in the time it takes for a small ship to eat a assembler the borg fleet should return, assemblers arent weak.
