My personal mod has 3 types of construction ships for the fed. The final one you can get is warp capable and has a phaser..... its quite weak but definitely a big boost to the feds later in the game especially as it can (only) build shipyards and turrets.
I never was crazy enough though to equip miners with warp and weapons..... at least so far. LOL... mining ships with warp.... crazy.... oh crap, now i think i'm going to have to make that.

I don't suppose anyone has looked into porting the original Armada Campaign to A2, have they? I can't run the original Armada on Win7 64-bit and I miss playing it sometimes.

megadroid is working on getting a campaign going, if he does then a rough equivalent of the stock campaign could be made.
some things will have to be different, ie all the cardassian stupid ships would have to go. making the klink campaign impossible.
most silly ships would be gone, like the random 8472 ships and the borg combine harvester thingy. but the maps could be duplicated at least.

I meant the campaigns from Star Trek Armada ported into Armada 2. I'm not sure if I was clear. If that's what megadroid is working on, apologies for misunderstanding.

no you were quite clear, i misread.
megadroid isnt working on that.
he is working on getting a viable campaign in fleetops.
getting the a1 campaign into a2 would be different as they are such different games. different ship types, and playstyles, and no warp in a1. it might be possible, but it probably wouldn't be very fun.

Actually MMM would work fine for that task - MMM was originally designed for A2, and it's not really the fact of getting a viable campaign for Fleet Ops, it's allowing other players to use all the tools and then-some to give them the chance to do anything with a campaign that they'd want

How is A1 that different from Fleet Ops. Fleet Ops doesn't have warp either, and it's built on A2.

Not even sure how to begin to answer that question . A1, A2, and FO are all different enough from each other to make direct ports of complicated features quite difficult - if not impossible in many instances. A2 may be based on A1, but it uses a lot of different functions. The "2" isn't the only difference.

The most noticable difference is that many files use different names. Campaign maps would look for files that don't exist.

I'm just saying the no warp dynamic isn't that big a deal. Already FO has done that on the A2 engine. So, that's one issue dealt with. The ships themselves can be ported in. A number of them already exist in A2. The big deal I can think of is planets. In A1, there was no colonization. You put starbases near enough to planets and they increased your crew regeneration. In A2 you have to colonize a planet for that, plus you can't put a base in over a planet. This would thoroughly screw up that little Second Klingon Civil War deal. Although, there is a Fleet Ops map with a planet in it that isn't in the way of anything at all.
BTW, has anyone ever bothered to think about the fact that, in Star Trek, tritanium is an alloy, and not something that you'd just mine for on some rock somewhere?
