This is from fedW_intrepidY1o:

"dom_escort_cruiserr2.odf" 15.709
"dom_escort_cruiserr3.odf" 15.709
"dom_escort_cruiserr4.odf" 15.709
"dom_escort_cruiserr5.odf" 15.709
"dom_escort_cruiserr6.odf" 15.709
"dom_escort_cruiserY.odf" 15.709
"dom_escort_cruiserZ.odf" 15.709
"dom_escort_cruiserZr2.odf" 19.44
"dom_escort_cruiserZr3.odf" 19.44
"dom_escort_cruiserZr4.odf" 19.44
"dom_escort_cruiserZr5.odf" 19.44
"dom_escort_cruiserZr6.odf" 19.44

Why does one S-2 take less damage?  And why do both rank 1s start off at 15, and then Zs go to 19?  I can't think of any reason offhand why it would from an intrepid phaser. :sweatdrop:

It's the same for the torp, fedW_intrepidY2o.

Interesting. Even more interesting is imo how you happened to notice it :D

If I haven't forgotten or missed anything, the TWA on S2 should increase damage taken from short ranged units by 24%. From fedW_intrepidY1o the damagebase is 10.258, so shouldn't the value for s2 be 10.258*1.24=12.71992 instead of 15.709?

Hehe, I scour the odfs when I'm looking at certain matchups because I'm a big nerd :on2long:.  I've caught a few errors from time to time, but very few.

I did the same calculation you did and got the same result.  I chalked it up to Optec doing something different with the math, but normally something close to the expected result should come out.

It's the same for Mayson's Intrepid.  Time for Optec to come to the rescue and help us understand. ^-^

I'm actually OK with the Intrepid doing a little extra damage to that pesky S-2 :D

due to some rather large changes in the FO tooling with the last patch, some passives were incorrectly applied multiple times during damage claculation in certain situations. Will be fixed with the next patch

this is now a known bug, good catch candidate mal.

Oh wow.  My head is spinning with comprehension here...the odf's detail every single weapon against every single opponent?  I have a whole new appreciation for the people who make this game :D

Although, looking at that match-up aren't the numbers way off already?  S-2 cruisers are a small ship and as such receive 20% reduced damage from beams, don't they?

I got 10.258*0.8*1.24 = 10.176

Am I missing something here?  Maybe the passive got applied a couple more times than twice  :ermm:

Beams do equal damage to all sizes

Well its not like they write all the code out for each ship they let a program do that for them.

What type of program?

i think optec wrote it himself, specifically for the task.

Beams do equal damage to all sizes?  I was certain they did reduced damage to small and large...wasn't that the case at some point in the past?

In any case, I've been poring through the odf's and finding dozens of numbers that don't make sense:

"rom_norexanZ.odf" 36.652
"rom_norexanZM.odf" 45.357
"rom_norexanZMr2.odf" 56.129

"dom_heavy_cruiser.odf" 11.787
"dom_heavy_cruiserr2.odf" 5.805

It looks like the passives have been applied between 2 and 3 times, in rare cases 4 times.

As a college student learning Computer Science, I would LOVE to see the script you use to modify these files, Optec, if you can find it in your heart to trust me.  I'll join the project in a heartbeat if you want another pair of hands typing.

Also I have a question: do projectile turrets count as pulse weapons?  Or are they like beams dealing full damage to all ship types aside from the bonus?  Also is the damage bonus flat for all ships below 20 defense or is it higher for ships with lower defense, say 15?

Beams have always done equal damage :)

Projectile weapons from turrets count as pulses too, and the damage bonus increases the weaker the defense.

Hai Sensei.

While I'm being taught the depths of FO wisdom, can you explain this romW_generix_fri2o file to me?

What do lines like

"borR_datamining.odf" 17.202

or

"fedU_sensors2.odf" 17.202

mean?  I can see how maybe the fed sensors means subsystems, but datamining is a special ability?  Did the script maybe get off-target as it was setting up these numbers?
