Problems with FO

do you have multisampling (AA) activated? if so, try to disable it. when do you get a black screen exactly?

No idea what multisampling is and I get it when I start the game up on fullscreen mode. I have found a way round it by playing it in windowed mode and then setting the resolution to something that fits on my screen but thats nice and big so its still kinda like full screen.

Multisampling is also called Anti-Aliasing (hence the AA).

Look it up, and your card's specific stuff about it if you want to try to neutralize it.  Sometimes shutting it down can seriously improve your video performance.

or you may have activated from the graphics menu in fleet operations, which is known to make 'black screen' problems on a few cards
