I tried that, I have had pictures lose quality and they turn out terrible, so I stick with the default for the only picture editor I have, Paint. Sorry about that.

I'll give it a try again though next time.

paint should be able to convert to png without losing quality. file size will halve.

ive used other image converters to reduce to high quality jpg, which comes out same quality. i did a test post of it, where the quality was identical.

paint probably cant do this. not sure tho

I can convert BMP to PNG and JPG without a problem in Paint.

i wasnt clear, it can convert to those formats. and going from bmp to png in paint is usually fine.

but going from anything to jpg in paint might lose quality, as paint doesnt use highest quality settings for jpg, it goes for smaller file size.

other image converters can convert to jpg at full quality.

I meant it doesn't cause problems for me, like the terrible quality Jetnova seems to get.

Do we really have to talk about what to post a picture as? I've seen other pictures in JPG. Plus when I've looked at the pictures here, they don't seem that big at all, perfect size. Plus the part that you need to see happens to be right in the center of the picture without even using the scroll bar.

*****

I would rather stick to fixing the problem that the picture is showing prior to the moment the game crashes. Thank you.

Maybe it has something to do with Windows Vista.

I think it might be something to do with the Race of one of the ships. At least, it crashes trying to access a null Race. Might be something higher up though.

Edit:

From what I can tell from the stack info and investigations here the AI (ship AI) for the Defiant or the Starbase (probably the defiant) is trying to query its Race to see if it should repair, but its Race is null (as in, an invalid race was specified). Check the Race settings for the Defiant to make sure they are valid (check the starbase too).

Hmm, I thought it had something to do with a ship attacking, meaning a weapon or attack related process, but I agree.  It has nothing to do with the exploding.

I have found that sound related bugs also cause crashes, so it could be an events file error causing the crash.

Yep, the A2 sound system is rather brittle, as I've found out myself in MMM. However I'm pretty certain this one is an invalid race - the disassembly confirms it.

Yeah, I am currently having a problem with it in my own mod. :sweatdrop:

Could you tell me how you 'Disassemble' the crash report? :D  It would be extremely helpful. :innocent:

It is surely not the races, the Defiant is for the Federation and it even has that listed as the race it belongs to. The starbase pictured is for the Klingons and is set to be for the Klingons.

The crash takes place in game, I'm jsut showing it through the Map Editor to make things easier, thus the Klingon Starbase because I don't believe in having Federation ships attacking Federation ships or stations.

The ship isn't being told to repair or anything like tha, its supposed to explode but the game crashes instead of that happening, the game crashes when the ship is on fire and is a  derelict vessel. There is no time for repairing or even recrewing because the moment it happens, the game crashes.

You might want to see the attached .ZIP file, it shows the ships and that they are for the right race.

You might want to recheck all that, because I know and see that ship is only for the Federation, no other race has it, the race name is spelt correctly and I've watcehd the crash happen so many times, the race has nothing to do with it because one of my original tests put only 2 Defiant-class vessels in the Map Edito attacking each other and the same crash happened.

I originally thought it was the race but that is the first thing that I narrowed out as the cause of the problem.

Since you all keep thinking it has something to do with the Events files, which is another file that I've narrowed out as a possible cause, I'm also attaching that.

I can tell you that the ships weapons work and are all in my game. The crash as I've stated before only happens when the ship is about to explode or becomes a  derelict. It never happens differently.

I take it you're trying the ship in your game to say this. Make sure you have the Twin Pulse Phasers Mod or the ship will surely crash the game, and also Transphasic Torpedoes or comment them out.

I look more into the Race thing that your all mentioning and the events file and sounds. I have narrowed those out as possible causes before and part of that reason is I tried the file in a Stock Version of the game and the same crashing problem happens. As I said, I'll keep looking too, and if anyone spots something I missed well originally checking the events and or race, please let me know.

Here are some additional files that I'm not sure but might help in solving this one. Some of these might also help with the "Destroy All" Weapon in another thread.

Wait!  let me see your norace.odf and races.odf.  I wonder if there is a problem with that.  That could be because when the game registers it as a derelict, there is no race to send it to.

I will look at then events file though, just in case.

I actually don't need to install the ship in my game.  i know how to make it to work my game, but we are trying to get it to work in yours.

We are narrowing it down.
