A chance for FleetOps going standalone?

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Indeed - it would open up Fleet Ops to casual gamers, and not just those that have A2 or had to get the crack :)

I no longer have the game, iv owned 2 copys in the past but both times the disk cracked in half because of the crappy case it came it, it would let go out the disk no matter how hard i pressed the buttom and it tore it in half now i use the crack.

So id imagine everyone who owns it or not that actually wants to play it has played it.

you'd imagine wrong then.

not everyone wants to use a an iso (i know several people who refuse to violate the law cos of morals)

to legally install fleetops you need a legal a2 disk.

fleetops is meant to install from an a2 install or an a2 disk. the only ways to install fleetops without a legal a2 disk would require illegal acts (1 example is copying someone else's install, another is downloading an a2 iso)

also fleetops is still definitely a mod, people who havnt played a2 are unlikely to have heard of fleetops.

Double "yes".  ^-^

I've shown the fleetops-site and game-recordings to some interested friends but they never got to play, because they don't have Armada II. They are interested though and if FO would go stand-alone they'd at least try it out.
Growing communities are living communities, I'd say (Boggz will agree on that too, if I'm not mistaken).

i agree that you need to grow in order to live, some people will always leave a community, thats why u need people entering.

things can also get stagnant without more new members in excess of leaving members.

And we have definentaly seen an influx of new members over time, and seems like a fairly generous influx just recently, if it was standalone I am sure we would see many more.  We already have a good system for publicity, if we could announce Flops as a standalone, I think we would see an increase almost immediately.

I personally know about 15 people that are interested in FO and mods for it right now but have difficulties playing it because they lack an A2 CD and/or will to download a crack. Going standalone would for sure see a large boost in members shortly after.

How arrogant are you to assume you know better even tho this has not happened yet, call me wrong when this has happened and we actually have data to prove you correct and me wrong.

That game that has been listed i went to the site and look at it but its looks rubbish in my view and i have not downloaded it, i did not hear of it untill this topic but knowing its free and legal doesnt make me want to get it because i dont really like role playing games and the gameplay iv seen looks boring.

You are wrong on that part anyone who hasnt played a2 either doesnt like star trek RTS games or doesnt like startrek, this is my basis to saying i think not alot will change, iv tried to perswade a friend of mine to play fleet ops, he likes RTS games but has always refused because he hates startrek.
