A chance for FleetOps going standalone?

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

thats a bit harsh, dont you think so ?
Just because someone likes StarTrek and RTS games it doesnt mean they pay more than 20€ for a 10 year old game. Hell, i wouldnt do that (i just have it since release). Not everyone who like StarTrek and RTS games bought Armada 2 at the time where it was released.
But if Fleetops would ever make it to a Standalonemod, it would give some of em the Chance to try it without investing to much money for a very old game. Thats what most people here think and thats why we hope that Optec and Co. get the permission someday. We dont know that they get it, but aslong noone trys, noone will know.

so i think the best is: Stop to discuss just for the sake of it and hope for the best

How arrogant are you to assume you know better even tho this has not happened yet, call me wrong when this has happened and we actually have data to prove you correct and me wrong.

That game that has been listed i went to the site and look at it but its looks rubbish in my view and i have not downloaded it, i did not hear of it untill this topic but knowing its free and legal doesnt make me want to get it because i dont really like role playing games and the gameplay iv seen looks boring.

Really man? Most people will not break the law just to play a mod of a game they don't have unless they know what they are doing, and really want the game.  Most people don't even know that you can get a game via torrent and a CD crack, or aren't willing to do something illegal like that.  Just because they don't play the game doesn't mean they "Don't like star trek or rts.  How Arrogant are you to believe that everyone who might like to play this game is already playing it and nobody is being held back by the fact that an a2 disk costs $200.

Either way, it will be awesome if the devs could go independent.  They could really do everything they want and be able to market the game alot better with it being free and all.

And welcome Caliansu! Hope you enjoy your stay.

Agreed Adm. Zaxxon. It only takes bout 5 minutes to download and install this game to be a Fleet Operator without a valid cd. Im sure there are many users doing it so. I had 2 cds of A2, both are damaged already, sadly. So i did same. Do i have to feel a shame now? If this game goes on its own, i would buy it again. Im also considering a donation soon, cuz its worth it, to support the ongoing.

You Kestrel, is it just possible, I mean a small possibility, but isn't it possible that some of the people who have bought the a2 game when it was in stores either lost, broke, or sold their cd. And isn't it possible that the reason not the literally millions of people who bought the game or didn't buy the game aren't playing this mod is because they haven't heard of it? Just asking

I again bring up the fact that I known many people in my personal life that I have advertised FO to and who would love to play it, but won't because they do not want to fork up money for an A2 CD or use illegal means. It's not because they don't like Star Trek or RTS. I myself love this mod, but if I lost my A2 CD I myself would never, ever download a crack illegally to play FO. I've had too many incidents (and massive virus attacks) trying to download cracks in the past and will never attempt it again.

I honestly think after the next patch when the devs have more free time they should really focus into looking at the matter of stand-alone potential. I can't direct their focus naturally, but in my humble opinion I think it's an important priority now that this Elite Force mod has proven it's very well possible.

just as info for those who have a2 disks and dont want to lose them to damage. try make an iso of them. as long as you dont share it with anyone its perfectly legal as you are just keeping a backup of your disk on your computer, i keep iso backups of most games i legally own.

Sadly, in some countries copyright law means even this is illegal. For example, in New Zealand there is no general exception to copyright law for format shifting, which means you are not even allowed to rip a CD you own to mp3.

yep, we will investigate the possibilities. would definitely be a win to not have to search for your old a2 disc every time :)

Yeah, I'm sure. At least in New Zealand anyway. We were told about it as an aside in our 2 lectures in Intellectual Property in Design and Management, and I also found a reference to this on a government website. But yeah, it seems really ridiculous :(

I wouldn't mind having FO become a standalone mod. What I would REALLY appreciate, though, is the A2 source. :whistling: Everyone has dreams, right? :sweatdrop:

I think that its 'technically' legal over here in the states to download any iso as long as you have the original disc not sure.

Wow, this is really cool. If FO could could solo it would be great. I would now be spared the DOH! momemnt when I forget to mount the ISO.

On an unrelated note; I wonder if this is part of the reason RPG-X development has appeared to have ceased for the past 2-3 years

Not that this stops anyone. :D

if u have an original cd of a game and u download an iso its probably legal, i mean you could have skipped the whole downloading thing and just made the iso yourself with the disk lol. unless its damaged, then its a good idea.
