I am new to the mod and must say it is probably the most impressive conversions I have EVER seen.
However upon initial perusal noticed the following

Are these missing from the mod or changed?

Trade
Planets and Colonisation
Z Axis
Ferengi Ship Stealing

These were some of the things that made the game a little different in the original. I assume that if they were removed they were considered a little redundant?

Anyways thanks for the answers in advance.

P.S. If I get flamed for not doing a search... its entirely my fault :)

  • Trade, I believe may be re-added sometime.
  • Planets were removed either because because crew isn't a resource anymore or the Military making Military Outposts were unrealistic (must have been the civilians).
  • The Z-Axis allowed people to bypass poorly-placed turrets, so it was removed instead of reducing it to a more reasonable size
  • Were the Ferengi removed?

Thanks for the replies. Without trade i'd say the Ferengi may have just been removed all together.

I do hope all of this is added back in some time. The game is great, but it feels more like starcraft without the other elements.

Z AXIS: Would you believe that I am dis-appointed anytime a game ignores or poorly impliments Z axis?
I recently realised Star Trek Armada 2 included it and got back into it. I hated the fact Sins Of a Solar Empire took it out along with all that solar system jaz :(. Homeworld of course had Z axis but no planets to explorecapture.

TRADE: My reason for wanting trade in is a rather silly one. I was teaching my 6yr old Son Math using it :) lol Oh well, cannot have everything.

Ferengi stealing ships is still in the game. A marauder comes whenever a ship gets to no crew (maybe has to have no shields as well?) after a while and tractors it away:D

One other thing sorry... Is impulse and warp removed?

Warp kinda (the Federation still uses it for the Warp-In feature), Impulse no. If Impulse was removed, how would the ships be moving?

Thrusters maybe

sorry I meant the difference between the two  now its one speed captain.

I just noticed the Ferengi in :)

Is the Galaxy in? Surely that would be serving in this period still? I take it if it is not its a balance thing.
I do prefer balance over cramming everything in. So if thats the case its a good thing.

Welcome to the community.

Nobody will flame you for asking new player questions.

The z axis is still there, ships will fly over each other to avoid traffic jams, you can also use map editor to put things at different heights. But when you give a ship a move order it will fly back to z=0. I believe that this can be modded back to stock behaviour.

To add to what tyler says, some borg ships have short range transwarp, but that needs research and special weapon energy. But most ships can't be made to warp.

Ships have varying speeds in fleetops. Short range ships are faster. Some ships also have specials that make them faster, like the sabre.

The galaxy is a fed warpin. No saucer sep.

The Galaxy is a Warp-In*, it's the big one you'll probably see being raped by the Ambassador or Intrepid Class.

*Ninja'd!

The ninja is even worse cos I'm on my phone.

Ambas pwns. :p

Until rhode island the ambas was the most useful warpin.

very nice thanks gents.

Z axis is still the CTRL or SHIFT key then?

I don't know why. But the game now feels a lot like starcraft? Two resource types, gold and blue.
A 2D plane, one speed, Lovely Graphics and lighting (better than starcraft imho).

The next thing I am going to look for is marines and the opportunity to tractor  and recrew derilict or disabled ships.

The Dominion B-8 War Frigate is a troopship, the Klingon Vutpa' can be refitted into a troopship, the Romulan Tavara has a troop-transport special weapon and the Borg have anything with the Holding Beam or 'Boarding' special weapons (most of their ships).

Those are the only genuine 'marine' things in the game.

nice. Glad the toopships are in. Sad the other stuff is out.

Also BTW... now the tree has been stripped it also reminds me a bit of star wars empire at war. That was just resources and fighting. No planets, trade, Z axis, warp. Lots of special abilities though.
