maybe every idea should come with a poll now, and no dominus i was not saying he was wrong, i was expressing how i disagreed with the rules like dont use mayson, because it confused new players and such

the feature request board is there to post ideas and requests, and its no problem to re-request something. we never removed or closed a topic cause it was re-requested. reconsidering an idea can sometimes be useful, as patches change and some older requests might stand into a new light with changes being made.
If someone posts an idea on a forum (check the latin origin of that word), they automatically agree for it to be discussed. and discussion includes people disagreeing or even declining ideas. Thats just normal and the board would be useless if thats not the case. If people link or refere to older discussion, thats also a good point, as some points dont need to be discussed again, and thats also something everyone should expect from joining or kicking of a discussion. I realy dont see where the Fleet Operations board seems unfriendly. We do, and will, work hard to ensure that the community will continue on its open path.

With experience, it becomes easier to work out whether some ideas will work or not, which may be how some ideas appear to be shot down out of hand so quickly. Fact is, some ideas will work well, most would take a lot of work to implement and a good proportion a flat out impossible with the way A2 is.
I'll agree with all of that but the very last two sentences
Try not to constrain your mind in worrying about coding difficulties or balance too much as features can have a time and a place, and the team works their FO miracles all the time as we've seen. Propose those crazy cool ideas (within reason...) and probably a fair proportion will be possible. Obviously, strategy comes into play with balance threads - but feature request threads have the beauty that they may be integrated soon, or very far in the future in accordance with how the devs continue to develop the game.

I get pissy with people who immediately poo-poo on my ideas if I think they don't really KNOW much about the situation I'm describing.
For example: if I propose a balance change to a ship that CLEARLY dominates in Online Multiplayer and I get shot down by a person who claims to only play single-player, then I generally take them to task over it. They are only seeing maybe 1/2 of what the game offers and therefore I get annoyed when they don't bring it up in a manner that I feel is reasonable. Yes, it's my opinion on what's reasonable, but if someone says, "hey, I only play multi but I feel that X ship is actually pretty balanced and here's why:", I'm MUCH more willing to listen to them than someone who just goes:
OMFG Feds already so underpowered I don't even need to gives examples its so obvious omgwtfroflcopter.
There's a pleasant way of putting things, and a nasty way of putting things. To quote Jafar from Aladdin: "Get the point?"

This would balance it.

formulations like "its clear for everyone to see, that ..." are always difficult to be used in a discussion, as they are very occupying on certain topics, and might annoy people of the opposite opinion. its a big like a verbal push. Thats always something to keep in mind if discussing a topic.
For example, the development team considers the Federation to be balanced, but we do have a different view of the word "balance". Our goal is to create different and interessting factions, for different types of players. And I'm sure you will find very good Federation players out there. On the other hand, you will also find many players that just dont get the hang with them, but might beat most of their opponents with the Dominion for example. Therefore "balance" is a very personal topic. Thats why we do constant balancing patches, as our test phases escape stuff, as we aren't masters of all factions too

well said optec, id have to agree with you
@ mal, so basically what your proposing is that we turn the sovy into a spear and just spear ships with warp?

I agree that a lot of things can be shot down, but it doesn't usually take me long to figure out why. Like when I said that people were dissing on B-5s because they haven't found the proper counter when in-fact it was, indeed, OP. Now ray, if this is about your Borg avatar idea, we didn't think it was a bad idea. We just discussed how unlikely it was for a small group like this to survive. A lot of people liked the idea, even Optec did. So all you need to do is realize that not everyone is going to agree with you all the time.

No this wasnt neccesarily about my borg avatar idea, just in general and in the past

Classic ray. I have to say ray, I think you're dead wrong here. The number 1 reason I stay active in the forums and community and play online, etc, is because, as a community, everyone hear listens....as well as our ideas are always entertained. Go to any other project home and check out the forums. You very rarely see the developers trolling them for good ideas, and taking the bad ideas out and possibly tweaking things.
Now, I haven't been a member of the community as long as some of these other folks, but what I see getting shot down the most are statements like "feds are underpowered....please fix them".....or "borg cost too much....please fix them" etc. I do market research reporting for some big electronics companies and I can tell you right now, if I put generic info like that down....I'd get fired. That being said, good, constructive feedback is required....i.e something like this
"feds are underpowered because xshipx costs xx amount with xx stats compared to xshipx costs xx amount with xx stats. 'Here is my suggestion for a fix....'"
And posts/suggestions like that will get the most positive and negative feedback from the players and devs.
Hope this helps.

My ideas getting shot down lowers my confidence in being a good idea factory..
Current Ranking: A factory of S[glow=red,2,300]uckish[/glow] ideas.
I really don't like my low ranking right now, and it seems whatever idea I have just seems to go down the drain of humiliation.

i made a list yesterday and haven't been back to check on it, it's either accepted or ignored, i was being serious when the list was made up, some may of already been said but really just confirms the original assessment, and a few others that may not of been seen until it was said. in any caseif some suggestions are studied carefully and rectified then all the better for FO in general.
as for ideas, i made a comment more like a suggestion based idea about the dodo on another thread a few minutes, i got someone jumping down my throat already but i accept it as everyone is different to that end while trying to explain the pro's and con's.

If you want your ideas to be approved more often come up with simple things that are really simple to implement.

low ranking? there's no ranking system in the forums, everybody's ideas are valid.
you have made a slight reputation for yourself, u have suggested many godships, or ships that wouldnt be balanced very well, but just because some of your ideas have been less than stellar doesnt mean i personally would not take your ideas seriously in future. everybody is valid here. if people prejudged me on my arrogance or my obnoxious behaviour i would be ignored all the time. we all have contributions to make.
