If you ask me, this at least encourages to actually PLAY a map.

I've played so many FO-maps vs. AI and not even seen half of them used in MP-games... what a shame.

Edit:

These logos on map selection actually show what you can expect to find there; just not the exact locations like a minimap does. I like this alot! Reminds me of "sins of a solar empire" a little.

I did a few AI-test-games;

The game looks promising (my machine has problems with the spammy weapons though).
I got a ctd two times (both games were against Sov). It occured when the game was over and went to the log-screen. No report yet.

All in all: Awesome work in fact :D

Another edit:

Here's a report.

I finished uploading a bug fix patch. This should finally let the people who play on huge resolutions to select from all four avatars: Sigma 2.1.1 Patch download - Mod DB

@TParis
In an older version it was supposed to display both the map logo and the map layout after selecting the map, but I think the recent FO patch has disabled that feature. I've heard that more detailed map display stuff will come in a future version of FO though so hopefully that will fix it. If there's enough demand I'll have it show the map layouts until FO reintegrates displaying both.

@RedEyedRaven
Yeah the crash log seems to point to the admiral's log. The FO devs can probably figure out what's going on there. I've not had any crashes when playing against the Sov since the newest FO patch so it might be something system related.

That's strange though, because the admiral's log doesn't do anything to the system and doesn't eat loads of performance. On the other hand I've been having problems with my harddrive lately so you may be right. I hope the devs can isolate the problem.

Sorry for the Double-post... but I felt to forward the topic a little.

I've played a few games online with Mort. The game always went out-of-sync; Mort stated it happened when he just built a ship (he played Mylock).

The game once crashed when it was yet loading; Sov and Mylock were the chosen factions.

On a sidenote, I noticed I couldn't detect any of the cloaked units of Mort's Mylock-
the Sov's satellite and the special sensor station couldn't detect them while the satellite was able to get at least indications of shifted Mylock on the map with its special. Probably the stations were just moving somewhere I didn't scout, but not being able to actively counter the "cloak" was quite annoying.

Here's the bug-report for the "game-loading-crash":

Out of Sync issues are beyond my control, I'm not sure what causes those (I have had them before in both FO and Sigma though).  :pinch:

The crashlog mentioned ST3D. I'm not 100% sure what that is but I believe it's responsible for rendering the graphics and might be related to the graphics card. I used to get this crash on loading once in awhile on my Windows XP comp.

After doing some tests I have noticed though that the Sov and VRA cloak detection is broken, probably something that might have come about between FO patches. I'll look into that and see if I can fix it.

I wish someone could solve them because the biggest bug with my own mod is oos. :( :pinch:

The Out of Sync issues are difficult to fix and in FO seem to mainly affect AI games - so the issue may be different in Sigma et al. I recall that missing quotation marks can cause OOS  :sweatdrop: . I am not sure if there are other mundane causes.

If there are people interested in being test bunnies for fixing Out of Syncs in general, please contact me by PM. I do warn that the method takes a lot of games (in Stock FO, to facilitate testing) and may not generate useful information.

If Out of Sync is connected to the AI then it might be the NPC races and/or map Wildlife that's causing the OoS. I imagine NPC related stuff will probably work better once FO finally integrates them down the road.

Hi everyone. I've been off the forums for a long while now, but decided to come back for a time/

I have a problem. I've downloaded Sigma and all the patches, and it opens okay, but whenever I try to play it crashes. I've just noticed that the choices for maps are all stock, and none of the Sigma maps seem to be coming up. Can anybody help me with this?

Oh, that is most likely Storm3D, the 3D engine A2 is using.

Hm. Did you load the mod via the mod manager?

It does sound like you pasted the files over the FO ones, with the recent patches that method is no longer possible since there's now a new Mod Manager with Fleet Ops. This should help explain how to install mods for Fleet Ops now: Modification Modules - The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations

Hopefully that's the problem.  :sweatdrop:

It sounds like the problem, but your help page confuses me.

So, do you just make a folder called "Mod" and put stuff in it? I'm not really getting it. I don't play around with computers, I just play stuff on it.

In the FO data folder make a new folder called "mods" and then past the Sigma data folder in there. When you start up Fleet Operations go to Options > Mod Options > Sigma and then hit launch and it should start up.  :borg:

I see. Easy enough. Unfortunatly, I've just partially rewritten fleetops by copying and pasting instead of the mods folder.  :( I'm just going to delete it and try again. I assume the mods option wasn't in options was because I'm running a partial Sigma and not fleetops. Will try again soon.

Indeed if there's no mods pasted in the mods folder the Mod Options won't show up. Reinstalling FO would be advisable if you pasted over it with Sigma files.  :thumbsup:
