So I now have a computer AI that builds cubes. Tactical and non-tactical. I'm not entirely sure what I did... It never built them over the last week. Ever. Earlier I played a game with allies, against three borg merciless. I was Romulans, with Federation and Klingon allies. I play with unlimited resources. I had nine shipyards, some mixtech, at least four warbird yards, and a couple smaller yards. My fleet numbered at least 100 ships (had four full fleets, plus was building additional ships). Had a good seven starbases with 50 plus turrets. Needless to say, resistance is futile. I was obliterated.
Again, it didn't always build them. But at one point, the borg fleet went from spheres and assimilators and scout cubes, to diamonds, tactical cubes. The allied AI's were destroyed quite quickly. And before I knew it, all three AIs had a swarm of cubes (and many others) that blasted right through all my starbases and turrets. My fleet didnt last three minutes, if that. Despite having numerous yards, haha, cubes were destroying entire fleets in seconds. Couldn't build anything.
Anyways! Now I play against a hard AI. Very Enjoyable. Just finished a game with Klingons vs AI Hard Borg. Built five starbases in a line between two asteroid belts (only entrance to the base) and built a line of turrets in front of them three deep. While the web of turrets did hold off everything for a while, I was actually surprised when the cubes came. Despite having 12 turrets all shooting continuously into a mesh of borg vessels, my defense was getting destroyed. Was rebuilding turrets in a frenzy. It held them off for quite a while. Eventually the AI built a huge fleet though. And the entire defense got destroyed. Three lines of turrets in front of five starbases and I think the AI had a good 20 cubes with everything else.
But, I had 8 yards right behind the wall, each building ten negh vars at a time. Once the borg got through the initial defense, I had an absolutely huge fleet of 100s neghvars waiting. Vengeance was swift. Neghvars destroyed everything.
But the cubes are insane. I love em. Even grabbed a couple and added it to the Empire. With a large enough fleet, taking over borg vessels can be done ... with them having no shields and all. Ha, just have to take out thousands of drones.

Yes, I am reading through the guide and everything. There are so many vessels, and specials, and passives. Might take a while to get used to everything. But so far, I'm really liking the Federation and Klingons (Klingons have a lot of variety, three yards, 5 research stations and everything).
Fun fun.

Key to countering the Borg while playing Romulans with unlimited resources ( i usually play Instant Action with those settings) is to back up your defensive starbases with Support Generix for shield recharge and plenty of Serkas. Torpedo Firepower with the big D and you have a chance to survive.
The other romulan defensive structures are barely worth building.

well if u can make the turrets with cloaks then they cant attack the turrets lol. even though pulses are weak vs borg. just get something that disables engines to keep borg ships out of range of the singularity transmitter and they wont be able to attack u.

I took out an Assimilator with only around 3 turrets (1 alt mode), so they evidently can cause damage.

No, its still a trap for the poor unsuspecting fools who do not properly read the subject (ie: 3.1.3).
