Though obviously it would be better if it didn't matter how many ships you had selected.

not true, what if u had multiple ships ready to become veteran, how would the game know which to promote. assuming you are near the cap and cant afford to promote both.

Especially as some people want to promote specific vessels and not others :)

yeah, the devs have put in a block line so that it won't show up on multi select.  that way you don't end up going over your limit or somehting.

@gvoice
Oh and I"m glad its all working for you. You should try the newest patch, 3.1.3.  it will fix a few errors, and I believe, add a new ship for the feds.  the nova. :woot:

3.1.2 added the Nova - 3.1.3 adds the Sensor Pod Nebula (well, the model in any case) :)

Hey, so far all I have downloaded is the 3.1.0 full install thing. Not the 3.1.3 patch. (earlier in this thread there were two links provided and I downloaded the first one..., what does adding the second link do? would i still open everything the same way? or would I need a new icon for playing FO?

I think the game is awesome.. but honestly still learning everything. So many things I could go into that I love... and the only reason I want to play stock A2 is to see if they had some of this stuff. Like when the shields get hit by weapons fire, the sound effects are great, did A2 have that? I love it. Well, even if they did have it, its way better in this.

So many ship classes! lol I'm trying to figure out what they all do. It seems like Federation and Romulans were just overall improved with like 10 ships each or so. But then klingons have three shipyards! haha, and must have a few more ships to choose from. (Well, feds have a lot of variety with warpins) And borg dont seem to have as many(... and they lost their shipyards?) and I'm trying to figure  out the modules ...  I don't even know what they are. But I still haven't figured out what makes a cube tactical or non-tactical. I mean... so far I just tried to do a little of everything, I haven't decided what my favourite one is.. but sometimes the cubes I make are tacticals, and other times they arent. What decides? Whats the difference between tactical/not? The offensive/defensive/system ratings perhaps?

For about half a week I've been reliving the dominion war. If we pretend the founders eliminated the cardassians, and the war continued, that's pretty much what I've got. I play as Feds. Have two AI normal allies, one klingon, one romulan. And play against several dominion forces. Generally, one normal, two hard, one merciless. I enjoy playing the dominion AI. Always get a good game against it, I like the federation AI too. but I do have a question about the Borg AI. No matter what settings I use, I can't get the borg AI to build large cubes, preferably tacticals. Everytime I play against a borg AI, and I've done this with normal, hard, merciless etc. Normal resources, double, unlimited. Free tech, standard tech. The AI doesnt build cubes. Just spheres, assimilators, scout cubes, and pyramids. Is there a way to set it so that it will build them?

Klingons and Romulans I'm not really sure... sometimes they build them, sometimes they don't. Or I just have to wait a while or something. Not entirely sure. Took a while to see klingons build neghvars, romulans not so bad for their warbirds.

And yeah... interesting with the mix tech yards. I'll have to play as everyone with everyone has allies. I've got the feds pretty well done. Was surprised to see miranda with dominion (pleasantly of course). Tough ship. Love the torpedoes. I guess you can't take over construction ships anymore. When I played instant action with stock A1 that would be like a pretend mission I would have. Capture enemy construction ship, build their shipyards, and attack them with a fleet of their own ships.

Yeah, as for the veteran thing.. I didn't realize there was a cap. I already had two sovereign veterans that had been promoted. I got like 10 more that were ready to upgrade ... but nothing happened when I clicked that promote yellow icon thing. Not a big deal.

Overall, really great game. I'm not sure if the ship designs were all new or not, but some remind me off makes from other games. I have dominion wars, and it looks like one of the klingon ships is similar to the one in there.  Is the romulan warbird the same as in Nemesis? I haven't seen the movie in a while, but they look similar in shape at least. And of course, extremely happy to see the defiant become a real battleship. The game had her as a little push over. Two classes of excelsiors as well, like the one you build. Haha, I make sure to get my defense fleet of galaxys. I just keep warping in / disassembling ships till I get a fleet of em.

Really good!

install 3.1.0 full as u have done.

installing 3.1.3 will install over 3.1.0, u will still have only 1 icon, the same icon as before, just the game will be updated to newer coolness. you should install 3.1.3 as there have been several improvements since 3.1.0

borg modules are interesting, a clever new way of building ships.

this is how they work:

to build a borg ship you first build a collective uplink. this costs a tiny amount and is a station.

then u select that uplink and select the chassis (eg sphere, diamond, pyramid etc) of the ship u want. selecting the chassis incurs some cost and takes collective connections (the unique borg resource)

you still dont have a ship yet.

after u have selected a chassis u have to select the modules u want on it. bigger ships have more module slots. some ships have unique modules just for them.

u have to use all the module slots.

installing different modules changes the characteristics of the ship u will make.

once u have chosen all the modules u click build, and the last of the cost of the ship is paid (if u have it) and it starts building.

so lets take the example of the sphere:

the sphere can hold 4 modules maximum.

it can choose from the following modules: beam, torpedo, regeneration, holding beam and prime (only for optimise avatar)

installing beam modules gives boosts to the beam weapons of the sphere, adding a new beam, allowing multi-targetting and makes the sphere take less damage from beam weapons (a passive called beam compensation)

installing a torp module gives u a torp launcher.

installing regeneration module gives u 10% faster hull regen. installing 2 or more regen modules lets you use the regeneration special ability, which makes the ship use special energy to repair much faster. regen modules are the most popular modules for spheres. most people install all 3 of them.

installing a holding beam module gives a holding beam to the ship.

installing prime module gives the deflector dominator passive.

so the modules u install depend on what u need the ship to do.

so if the enemy makes lots of big ships u would put on torp modules.

if they spam little beam ships then beam module.

for the cube:

to make a cube tactical all you have to do is make sure that you install 2 tactical armour modules. these give defence boosts. installing both tactical armour modules makes your cube tactical. most cubes are made like this as they are tanks.

tactical cubes are very very hard to kill. they have awesome defensive capabilities.

so change your modules based on what u need the ship to do.

it might be difficult, the ai in armada2 is awful. fo is designed for multiplayer person vs person, so try play online, its much more fun :)

miranda 2 is awesome, amazing ship, generally good. it has no torps though, it has quantum pulses. they are classed as pulse weapons, so the miranda 2 isnt so good vs borg.

and u can take over construction ships just like you would capture any ship, just knock its shields out then beam to it with loads of ships. u wont be able to build their stuff (which is good imo) but it will grant u mixed tech, just as if that race was your ally.

the romulan warbird in fleetops is called the Tavara, it is different from shinzon's completely silly ship in nemesis called the reman warbird Scimitar. the scimitar will be coming into fleetops as a map object hopefully. but it probably wont be as silly as it was in the movie. the tavara is powered by omega, the scimitar was powered by crappy writing thelaron particles.

im glad the defiant is in the correct place now too. the vanilla defiant was pathetic.

with warpins, instead of decomming anything that isnt a galaxy, rank it up to officer level (1 or 2 gold bars) then it wont contribute to warpin cap any more. if u want to cheat u can select ships then hit enter, type levelup, hit enter again and all selected ships will rank up once.

glad u enjoy the game, now come play online, its much more fun.

hey,

at this moment, i dont have internet on the new computer, but ill get it soon enough im pretty sure. mac is my internet connection.

... but

when i do and can play online.. i was never able to figure it out with A1, I would try multiplayer, and I would get into some interface where i could chat with others online, but games would never load.. not sure. unfortunately never been able to play online.

- i will try to get that 3.1.3 installed quickly.

i hadnt realized construction ships granted mixed tech. which gives me another question actually... what is borg mix tech? because they were the one's i first tried getting mix tech through construction ships (holding beams are just conveniently the easiest way  to test it out, assimilating a construction ship is relatively easy with cubes), but then even after I had got that, and used it to build a yard... I dunno, but I don't think it gave me any buildable ships. I've never actually done it with other races.. but I dunno. It didnt do anything for me with the borg.

thanks for the suggestion with the galaxys. that will make it easier knowing to rank up. well, can easily get more than ten then. if they all rank up.

As for Nemesis, I didn't mean the scimitar, - the two warbirds that assisted the enterprise in the rift. Just from what I remember, the ship seemed to have a wider build with the wings, like the tavara. But even still, not entirely sure if it is the same designed.. but it reminded me of it.

Heh, you should take a peak at the guide.  It will explain alot of what you are asking.

So, multiplayer is pretty awesome, you can learn how to set it up in the guide(there is a link on the main page.)

Borg mixed tech is just a repair yard, and you get new adapter modules that let your adapters do more damage and stuff against that race.  I think is is still being worked on though, so it may change at any point in the future.

And for nemisis, they do have those ships in, and there is also the one myles talked about.  I don't remember the name of the nemisis one though, but I"m pretty sure you can build that one too.

Have fun!

Yes, that would be the Norexan.

Well, I want to do this for my single player only install. I'll figure it out. No limits ftw. :borg:

All the stuff necessary to add the correct coding should be well explained here :) . And/or you can just compare how the buttons in refitting compare to those in veteran units :)

Sure.

The line is:

showinmultiselect = 0

Just in case you were wondering.  Just delete it in all the all_veterain.odfs and the button will show up multi unit select menus.

adaption modules give only defence boosts, not offence boosts.

for borg in a 1v1 if u can steal the enemy con ship as it expands and get the con ship safely home then u have won

just spam adaptors with double adaption modules, u will never die.
