why not ?
why not giving them the ability to send a false signal and lure in a convoy ?
of course this would only work once and only a few minutes after capturing the station but i think this would be a cool addition and would make it worth spending ships and manpower to capture such a station

I agree with Lexxy K, why capture something you can't use and turn against the opponent? The logical thing to do would be to destroy an opponents Trading Station/Facility if you can't take it over and use it. After why take something that would be useless to you when you can just obliterate it, both taking it and destroying it set the opponent bac either way.

Because destroying something doesn't give you resources like scrapping it would.

And as I said before, if the Fed player puts their Trade station somewhere where it could be captured before the game is obviously won and lost, then they deserve the consequences.

but why on earth would a convoy come to a captured station? they're not idiotic. they'll likely have some cryptography in use to prevent anyone asking them for supplies. these convoys are crewed by humans.
also supplies are likely to be faction specific for the most part. a federation ship needs federation widgets and photon torp casings. a romulan ship will have trouble using federation widgets and parts. dil and tri are universal, parts aren't. it's like suggesting a challenger II could accept parts from a russian tank. most of the parts would be different.

because news need some time to spread around the universe ... thats why i said its only possible for a short time after capturing the station
and every code and so can be hacked

yes thats a good one ... didnt thought of that
kay than maybe you can only order dilithium and tritanium freighters
or maybe a random one ... think of it like boarding the station and find somewhere in the stations computer a convoy order ready to transmit

1) subspace communication inside a sector is almost instantaneous. your starbase will know the very second that another station on your map is attacked (you can see the attack on your screen). when a station is captured you don't continue to get sensor data/los from it. the enemy knows you're not gonna believe that the station still reports to you. no station in fleetops is ever out of contact with the rest of the stations on the same map. they're just too close together.
2) if you have so little faith in cryptography then i'm sure you don't use online banking, or online shopping, or send confidential info over the internet. the fact is that modern cryptography is very strong, the only way to guarantee decryption is to brute force search, which would take longer than the age of the universe (depending on the cryptography and how it's set up, but none of this is difficult). your online banking/shopping is secure because of this. i don't see any reason why there won't be updated cryptography in the future. the idea of an enemy station tricking another base into sending a convoy to give away resources is keystone cops silly.

convoys from the federation will be delivering supplies only.
to get dil/tri at a trading station you have to do trading. i wouldn't object to trading with neutral races still working. i doubt the ferengi would care who they trade with, as long as the trade is beneficial to them.

With this new system, would there be a way to mod-in escorts?

It sounds like the Feds will be one of the only factions to be able to exchange one mineral for another? That's cool. Makes it seem more like the show, if you have the Feds on your team, they are a gigantic empire of different races, so you can use that to your advantage.
With every news post that comes out, this new version of FO seems less and less like A2 and more like its own Star Trek RTS game. I can see why you guys took Armada 2 out of the title on the new site. All in all, 4.0 is looking really, really cool, and I can't wait to see it.
