i dont belive it is forcing, you arnt forcing anybody to do anything, they dont have to create an account, they dont have to dowloaded the game, nobodys forcing them to get the game that is there choice,
the whole point of this is i see all those people who download the game, would it not be a good idea and helpfull to get these people to join and join tunngle, increase the activity of online play and matches

so just leave a note for the guide and how to play online...as well as a link to some of the replays

hmm, maybe you could have a message when you dowload, and one that default pops up when you open up the game, saying thanks for dowloaded, be sure to download tunngle to play... or somthing like that?

That's why Doca's working on integrating Tunngle with Fleet Ops of course.

Can't say I would be against that

I would just like to say, I got an account to post my thoughts. If I had to get an account to download the latest version, I probably wouldn't have downloaded Fleet Ops in the first place. When something pops up saying that I need an account to do something, I usually just leave the site.

ditto cabal.
as i mentioned earlier, 1,2 and 3, pretty much as it plays out.
i never play eve online (crap anyhow) and any other mmo for the same reason, because i am forced to pay money to play. fine the former has a 14 day trial and mind you it also had a 30 day trial for those who were referred. why should i have to pay any money to these money grabbing SOBs? its a bad business model and to the proverbial member of number 3, they are the only ones propping up the game because its their right to be taking in by all this rubbish and want everyone else to go through the same process.
it's bad enough we all pay taxes, stealth or otherwise, VAT, and ever increasing expense of buying food clothes and other stuff, but there are shops that i will never ever go to because they are too expensive.
that comment you made is an advert and its suggesting and not forcing you to join the fleet ops forum and a thank you message. this is the thing which would work out better. its a better idea then the one you came up with.

well, MMOs do indeed cost money cause there are quite some costs involved keeping the game running, unlike games like Armada2 (besides from support teams, which should be considered part of every software project). Companies don't earn that much from MMOs as you might imagine.
Yep, we won't force anybode to do anything. Forcing one to make an account will not change anything on the forums. It will just cause more 'dead' forum accounts, but those "forced users" wont contribute to the community.

well i was using it as an example if it was tried here, the ones who contribute daily to the game are the only ones that remain, once the hundreds or thousands of other players disappear. it depends on how big it is, if the content is right, if its worth the effort, MMO's usually drag in millions of young teenage players spending their parents money or their own pocket money to play these games without regard to the act, they dont realize. but to everyone in late teens through adulthood, there is only so much a person can do with the money they have and forcing someone to do something is no brainer answer: no.
the very same line of thinking applies to the forced registration process, there are so many players online, some do it and cant be bothered one way or the other to get the game, they also dont realize how many dead accounts will be left behind as you say optec, but to everyone else the question is why should i register just to play a game when their are thousands of other games, even stock A2 that i can play instead, why should i have to register? the simple answer is it can not be done, how can a mod team get a fanbase and a player base? by simple free will, if a mod team forces someone to do something, what kind of message is that sending?

that's right. gamespy will be "phased out" with the next patch - it will be still accessible but 'hidden'. i have looked into the gamespy lobby from time to time and there always was zero activity. tunngle will be more prominently placed on the multiplayer dialog then, so users interested in online play will be lead towards it - which should raise the activity there. i think most users currently are disappointed that they meet noone in gamespy - or when they do, games usually do not work properly as many do not know that they have to port forward or how they configure their router to do so.
about advertising that was mentioned earlier. the best way is that you guys just tell others about fleet operations if you like it some time i'd like to try google adwords too with some saved donation money, but on the other hand i don't like to get too 'commercial' with fleet operations as we are not interested in running into problems with viacom or activision-blizzard.

Any luck on decreasing the networking load times? I.e. the long time between clicking on a networking option, i.e. gamespy, icp or ipx and being in the lobby. Especially annoying is that if you minimise during this time it hangs, when it can take several minutes.
Also, who uses IPX anymore? Is that getting phased out too? The less obselete multiplayer options there are, the less confusing it will be to new players.
Btw, Doca and Optec, I sent you both a PM and haven't got a reply yet It's okay, I can take dissappointment

IPX, that was only really useful for LAN games, i dont know of anyone from where i am who plays FO let alone star trek games. better then serial connection which has been phased out for sure.
that turned out correct.

I had a few games via gamespy, but not many.
People not having their ports forwarded happens very often, but wont they have the same problem with tunngle?
Why doesnt anyone use Gamespy anyway?
I wont mind tunngle, im just wondering.

gamespy, because exactly what its name says, most players dont realize, but all they do is spy on your game usage for game companies or marketing companies and because they got your details and email down, it wont take long before someone sells your email for a new game coming out based off the old ancient conquest game engine. a matter of money. some law agreements like the EULA end of license agreement and such usual have small but complicated articles stating your info can be used without your knowledge once you accept to the terms.
ive known about GS for a long time and tried to avoid playing MP games on their servers. gamespy servers are usually very strange to deal with. almost all the time i tried playing stock A2 MP games 3 years ago, said something about the connection before loading screen.

my thoughts exactly. the ipx button is removed in the dev version. it can also still be accessed if necessary (though i doubt that anyone will want or has to use ipx ever again).

port forwarding on tunngle is not necessary as you are in a virtual private network where necessary ports can be connected directly between machines just like in a real lan. yes, and i'd say the annoying port forwarding is also the reason why most people prefer alternatives over gamespy.
i was surprised how many people are using fleet operations with tunngle. it peaked at 25 people in the fleet operations tunngle channel last weekend or so.

no improvements on loading times, however i have improved various things related to it. the box with the 'loading' message was missing in the last few version due to bug (ok, not a real improvement here, but should be less confusing for some users) and it should less of a problem if you want to switch to another application.
