The Borg Return

the klinks and cardassians are supposed to have a border for example. the klinks also sent a fleet into breen space.
also klach dkel brakt is the briar patch. which was mentioned after the book was published.
and ty'gokor's position on that map is not believable as it leaves them vulnerable. and is nowhere near kronos.
The map may not be perfect, but it's pretty good, and I think most inconsitencies can be made up for by extending it into 3D which is something these maps ignore. We're really only looking at one plane cut through the center of the galaxy.
TCR_500 wrote:That map is somewhat what I based my map on, except I put Earth at the center of the Alpha quadrant instead of on the border of the alpha and beta quadrants. It seemed logical to do that. Plus I thought I saw one other map that did the same.
I'm pretty certain though that Earth is smack dab on the "dividing line". That actually made more sense to me than to have it in the middle of the alpha quadrant.

We have been pulled from Cardassia and ordered to head straight for the northern boarder of the Federation space. Apparently the Borg have attacked a Tereanan fleet and their transwarp gate network. Currently we are the fastest and most heavily armed ship. We are to recieve the final components for the new, experimental, transwarp drive system at Deep Space 5 before heading directly to Tereanan Starbase 7144. I can only hope there will be something left when we get there.

=== Channel Open - TSS Mountshining ===
This is the Mountshining. Our link to the Tereanan transponder network has been severed by the explosion. It looks like our new shield generators worked. Our propulsion and weapon systems were knocked out. I think we got one of the cubes, but I think the other two are heading for the transwarp network. When possible, I would like a repair ship.
=== Starbase 7144 ===
One of the remaining cubes has boarded the transwarp network and is trying to get it back online. The other cube is trying to keep us away from the network. The transwarp station is set to self-destruct, the Borg won't succeed in getting it back online. The Borg seem to have already adapted to our multi-transphasic torpedoes. We can't hold the off much longer without reinforcements.
By the way, this transwarp network station is in the Delta Quadrant.

We reached Deep Space 5 without incident. The Hime's transwarp drive is now online but my chief engineer tells me it's only working at 70% efficiency. This is experimental technology however, so it's understandable. According to him, we will only be able to run it for 8-10 hours before having to drop to conventional warp speeds. It appears there is also a 40% chance of overloading the drive. It is a risk we will have to take however; hell are taking. The drive has been active for 4 hours now and so far so good; we've covered the same distance it would take a ship at maximum warp two and half days to cover. I hope we make it in time.

=== Automated Distress Call Detected - Unknown Source ===
This is First Officer Karral Samson of the TSS Earthquake. Our vessel has been assimilated by the Borg. Only 12 of our crew memebers escaped, the captain is dead. Our vessel was carrying multi-transphasic and phase-cloak torpedoes. The Borg will be ready when you use those weapons. We're in an escape pod in the Nekrit Expanse. 102 light-years from Starbase 8103 on a heading of 357 mark 4.

=== Incomming Transmission ===
This is the TSS Marker. We've deployed a Boundary Class destroyer to pick up the Earthquake survivors. The Marker on our way to Starbase 7144 to assist with the Borg situation there. A vessel has been sent to reinforce the transwarp conduit of the USS Hime so that the drive won't have to work as hard. This conduit reinforcement will also help with speed. TSS Marker out.

*****Capt. Petri - U.S.S. Hime - Captain's Log Stardate 781444.9******
We've successfully run the transwarp drive for 10.5 hours and are now half way to Starbase 7144. While we wait for the system to cool down, we have picked up an intermittent signal emanating from a source 2 light years away, bearing 277 Mark 035. It's too weak and deteriorated to make much out. There is a possibility it is from a Tereanan cruiser. We are on course to intercept the source.
******************************
*****Capt. Petri - U.S.S. Hime - Captain's Log Supplimental******
We have found the source of the signal, it is indeed the remnants of a Tereanan cruiser, the T.S.S. Typhoon. There are no survivors...and no bodies. The vessel is riddled with holes, the bridge has been completely exposed to space, and five escape pods are missing. We're scanning the surronding sectors, but so far nothing on long range sensors. I have a team attempting to retrieve anything they can from the ship's computers, but it appears that the crew erased most of the data, either that or the Borg did. Even more disturbing, the vessel's weapon stores have been cleaned out and it's shield generator removed. There is too much surronding damage to ascertain whether this was the doing of the Borg, scavengers, or the crew of the vessel.
On a more positive note, my chief engineer reports he has been able to improve the efficiency of the transwarp drive to 80%; we should now be able to maintain transwarp for ~11 hours. We have also made contact with the Tereanan vessel sent to assist us and will rendezvous in 45 min. and continue on to Starbase 7144.

=== Captains Log - TSS Mountshining ===
We've gotten our weapons and propulsion systems back online and we have set a course to Starbase 7144 at 800 c. The ships networking system has been completely fried. The shields are up, but we're not sure how long they'll hold. The TSS Marker has arrived at Starbase 7144. One of the tactical cubes appears to be disabled. The other one is damaged with about 15% of it's armor missing, but it's still in the fight. There are several support vessels reinforcing the shields of the remaining stations and ships. The survivors of the TSS Earthquake have been picked up and are on their way to Starbase 8103.
======
=== Captains Log - TSS Infierior ===
We have picked up two of the escape pods from the Typhoon. But the escape pods are only half full. We're at full tactical aleart to make sure whoever did this doesn't catch us off guard. The TSS Supernova is conducting a search for the remaining escape pods while we rendezvous with the USS Hime to help them get to Starbase 7144.
As to what happened to the Typhoon. We can't discriminate any weapon signatures. Not even the chroniton signatures of the Tereanan weapons are visible. It is unusual for such a powerful ship to get into so much trouble so quickly with apparently no warning. Especually one designed to capture enemy vessels. And where are the backup systems and power cores?
======
=== Captains Log - TSS Supernova ===
We have separated the top and bottom saucer sections from the rest of the ship. Both saucer sections will search for the remaining escape pods while the main section attempts to restore power to the TSS Typhoon and try to access one of the backup databases. However, if the reports from the Inferior are correct, there may not be any backup databases left. The Infeorior has successfully rendezvoused with the USS Hime and are preparing to make their next jump to finish the trip to Starbase 7144. The Supernova will enhance their scanning equipment to try and find any weapon signatures, transporter signatures, or anything else that might tell us what happened to the Typhoon.

We have successfully rendezvous with the T.S.S. Inferior and are currently at transwarp on course for Starbase 7144. With the help of the T.S.S. Inferior we estimate arrival in 8 hours. To avoid coming out into an ambush or battle we plan to drop out of transwarp at the edge of the system and make an initial scan before making the jump to the station.
Long range sensors still show nothing. We have recovered what looks like a sensor log fragment from the computers of the T.S.S. Typhoon. While I have people trying to reconstruct it, we probably won't get very much from it.
I have also relayed our current status to Starfleet Command. They say they will begin scanning the space around the Tyhoon with the Midas array. Starfleet Command also says they are readying the second fleet to make the journey to the Delta quadrant via the Tereanan transwarp network. I have advised them to send the fleet to a position as far from Starbase 7144 as reasonably possible.

*****Capt. Petri - U.S.S. Hime - Captain's Log Supplimental******
A development, my people have successfully recovered enough of the log fragment recovered from the Typhoon to get something useful out of it. They are in fact internal sensor logs. It appears that the vessel was flooded with some kind of unknown compound. It also appears to have had a corrosive effect on the live support systems. The effects of the compound are not clear, nor is it clear if this was the work of the Borg or something else. If this is a new Borg weapon, it would indicate a complete change in tactics.
I have informed both Starfleet and the Tereanans.

We were able to sneak past the battle as Starbase 7144 and extend our cloak field around the disabled Borg ship. We're towing the now cloaked vessel to a starbase at the other side of the Delta Quadrant to analyze it's database. The TSS Marker has lured the second cube away from Starbase 7144. But we're not sure how long we can hold up the Borg. The Tereanan sensor network has picked up two separate transwarp signatures. One of them seems to be expected.
=== End Transmission ===
=== Tereanan Intellegance ===
We have received word of the new weapon that was used on the Typhoon. If it is the Borg, than that would be a big change in tactics from what we normally would expect. The Tereanan Empire is now searching for Borg warp or transwarp signatures around the Typhoon to find any Borg vessels.
Last time the Tereanans declared war on the Borg, the Borg responded by saying "War is irrelevant." And the Tereanans were winning by a long-shot. This possible change in tactics may be a response to this war. If it is the Borg at all. But it seems more likely that the Cardassians would do something like this than the Borg. However, the Cardassians are not transwarp capable. It would take years to get this far from Cardassian space. And there are no wormhole within 12,000 light-years of this area. The Cardassians couldn't have done it. The Dominion were scattered across the galaxy by the Tereanans during the Dominion war. However, it is unlikely that the Dominion could have come up with such a compound without their empire being intact.
If we knew more about this compound, we could develop a shield against it. If we had more logs, we could find out if the vessel was cloaked or not when the attack happened. And why nearby Tereanan ships weren't notified of the attack by the vessel's computer. And most importantly, who did it! Whoever did it obviously knew about how Tereanan ships operate to have all of the primary and secondary systems gone from the vessel.

We have engaged the Borg. Two tactical cubes.
Helm, bring forward weapons to bear. Tactical ready quantum torpedoes and pulse launchers; tight spread, minimal separation. Target between their armor plates. Fire when ready.
Tact: Direct hit to Borg vessel, Significant localized damage.
Phasers, narrow beam, maximum output. Target the same location. Fire.
Tact: Direct hit. Sir, they're firing.
Evasive maneuvers.
Tact: Direct hit to dorsal shields. Regenerative shields are working sir, the effect of their beam was reduced 80%.
Good. Helm, flanking run, full impulse. Ready starboard phasers, target their exposed areas; as many as you can. Prepare to fire aft torpedoes and pulse launchers. Engage.
Tact: Firing. Several hits. Firing aft weapons. Direct hit. Two of their cutting beam emitters are out.
Bring us about. Bow up. Fire dorsal phasers, target their distribution nodes.
Tact: Firing. Incoming graviton torpedoes. Dorsal shield layer 1 at 80%.
Keep targeting their distribution nodes, fire at will.
Ops: Sir, the second cube is closing. 400 km.
1st Officer: Is the station operation yet?
Ops: Yes, weapons at 70%, shields 50%.
Helm, move us towards the station. Have them concentrate fire on the same targets as us. Hopefully if we keep beating this guys in the nuts they'll keel over.
Tact: Sir, the first cube is starting to suffer power irregularities. Five distribution nodes have been destroyed or disabled.
Keep at it. We've almost got them. Helm offensive pattern delta-57. Tactical, switch frequency randomizers, keep them guessing.
Tact: Aye, sir. Their hull integrity is at 70%.
Alright, widen weapons spread.
Tact: Direct hit to their primary power grid. They're dead in the water.
Ops: The second cube is turning on the station. The station's shields are down.
Damn. Change course. Target the second cube. Get them away from the station!
Tact: Firing. They're scattering our targeting sensors.
1st Officer: Increase power to targeting scanners, switch torpedoes to visual guidance. Target their power systems.
Tact: Sir, they're firing on us. Forward shield layer 1 down to 50%, layer 2 at 80%.
Bring us about for another run. Keep targeting the same spot.
Ops: Sir, they're trying to move the target out of range.
Helm, stay on top of them.
Ops: Sir, I'm reading drones aboard the station.
Damn it. Move us into transporter range of the station. Marine strike teams deploy immediately, use close quarters tactics, minimize phaser use. Monitor for signs of that compound, at the first sign signal for evac.
Ops: Teams away sir.
Tact: Sir, the second cube is moving off.
Close to minimum firing distance. Evasive maneuvers pattern omicron-6. Destroy that damn cube.
Tact: Direct hit to their impulse manifolds. Their impulse reactors are overloading. Sir, there's a power build up in their power core and they've changed course towards us.
Helm turn us around, they're trying to catch us in a shock wave.
Helm: No good sir, they're closing too fast.
Full power to aft shields, all hands, brace for impact!
.
.
.
Report!
Tact: Shields reduced to layer 3 at 50%. The shields to most of the shock wave though. Aft pulse launchers off line, aft phasers off line. The first cube appears to have been destroyed in the blast.
Helm: Port pylon impulse engine is off line.
Ops: Ventral transporter emitters off line. Minor hull breaches on decks 18, 20, 21, and 23; emergency force fields are holding. 25 minor injuries, 15 severly wounded, no casualites.
What about the station, what's the status of the strike team.
Ops: No response from the command center. Scans indicate it has decompressed.
Tact: Team Alpha reports they've eliminated ten drones, no injuries. Team Beta reports 15 drones eliminated. They also report that several drones were carrying canisters of some unidentified compound. Gamma Team reports no contact, but several wounded station personal.
1st Officer: Scan for any remaining drones.
Tact: I've located five drones on level 15. Gamma Team is the closest.
Send Gamma Team to deal with them quickly, they can't be allowed to carry out what ever they're planning. Alpha team is to establish a command post in the engineering section. Send over medical teams, Beta Team will provide cover for them. Have all teams secure any canisters of that compound.
Tact: All teams acknowledged.
Prioritize repairs to our sheilds and weapons. Put us close to the station and keep your eyes on the long range sensors.

Reroute 4 power cores to the forcefields. Set all forcefields to maximum power and keep them modulating! Activate internal security cannons and set them to auto-modulate. They'll let us and the Federation assault team through them, but they won't let the Borg through them.
Get the shield generators back online! Seize that compound! Prepare the station for evacuation and copy all logs to the TSS Marker.
TSS Inferior, target the remaining cube with the artillery torpedoes. Get the torpedoes between the armor plates of the cube. Tactical, full spread anti-matter torpedoes. Or what's left of them!
Sir, incoming vessel. It's the Mountshining!

Reroute 200 power cores to the forward shields and lay in a collision course with the remaining cube at full impulse. Use the forward deflectors to reinforce the shields. Let's hope they hold.
Report!
Tact: Shields are holding. No damage, no casualties. The cube's armor plating has buckled and is now embedded in their hull. Their primary and secondary shield generators are offline. Their propulsion system is down. Their weapons are down. Their power grid containment field is collapsing.
Download as much information from that cube as possible before it explodes. I want to know what this new compound is that I've been told about. Are there any more Borg vessels in the area?
Tact: No. The area is cleared of all Borg vessels. No transwarp condiuts have been detected either. More reinforcements have arrived.
Good, start repairs on all vessels and stations in the area. I doubt we'll be able to use that tactic again.
Ops: Sir, that cube just exploded. We got 75 gigabytes of data from it.
Forward the data to the Federation and Tereanan Intellegence. Use decryption algorithm Alpha-724-B on the data. Let's see how long we can keep this safe. Find a way to disrupt the Borg transwarp drive. Let's equip Starbase 7144 with the new shield generators while we're at it.

=== Captains Log - TSS Supernova ===
We have tractored the TSS Typhoon to Starbase 1228 where they will begin trying to find out what sort of compound was used on it and how to defend against it. The Tereanan Empire intends on putting the Typhoon back in service. The Supernova has been asked to assist the Federation with their new weapons and shield systems.

*****Adm. Petri - U.S.S. Hime - Captain's Log Stardate 781447.32******
After the debriefing with Starfleet and Tereanan Command, the general consensus is that the Borg have most definitely changed tactics, and perhaps not for the better. It was my conclusion that the Borg effectively ignored the Hime, despite it being the larger threat, and targeted the starbase directly. From the look of things, the first cube was just to keep us busy while the second moved in close to the starbase. And then there's the compound they were carrying. Preliminary analysis indicates that it contains billions of Borg nanoprobes and that it behaves like an aerosol. We suspect the goals is at least 2 fold. 1)rapid assimilation of personal and 2) inflicting structural damage on the target. Starfleet Intelligence concurs. My CMO will be conducting experiments by exposing the compound to small quantities of organic material. Hopefully we will be able to find a means of neutralizing this stuff and preventing its spread.
On the up side, the multi-layer regenerative shields worked marvelously. It looks like the Borg were either unable or unwilling to adapt to the shields and they showed no visible adaptation to the quantum pulse launchers; however, it is entirely possible that this went hand-in-hand with their new tactics. Starfleet has thus issued orders to begin retro fitting pulse launchers and the new shield system on all starships capable of carrying them. I have also forwarded all of my chief engineer's findings and improvements regarding the transwarp drive. Based on that Starfleet Engineering has been able to work out the final kinks in the system and we should be able to run the drive at near 98% efficiency. Starfleet will now begin retro fitting larger starships with transwarp drives.
After discussion with Starfleet Command we have decided to move the 2nd Fleet to the Delta quadrant via the Tereanan network. They should arrive here within 36 hours. Adm. It was also agreed that I should take command of the 2nd Fleet. Of course the weasels over there had to promote me, that I didn't agree to. I'm now Officially Admiral Petri - U.S.S. Hime - Commander 2nd Fleet - Delta Quadrant Strike Force. God I hate titles.
Regardless, it is now clear that the Federation must take the offensive if we are to have any hope of surviving.

=== Tereanan Engineering and Intellegence ===
With the findings of this new compound, the Tereanan Empire is retro-fitting their vessel's nanoprobe generators, which usually only help repair subsystems, to now be able to combat this compound and increase their efficiency to allow the hulls of stations and ships to get makeshift repairs from the nanoprobes to counter the Borg nanoprobes.
Our medical engineers are also working on a way to counter the Borg nanoprobes from inside the body by using our own nanoprobes to combat the Borg nanoprobes. Previous experiments have only had a 30% success rate, however, if this is to work, the success rate needs to be higher. Tereanan nano-technology has never been used as such a large scale to combat the Borg. As an immunity to an away team infiltrating a cube, the 30% success rate sent those plans back to the drawing board. They didn't have any success if a ship was being assimilated. Now, the Tereanan Empire is relying on a technology that has a very bad safety record, but we believe it's our only hope.
The Federation has also been given information on how to build these nanoprobes. As for improving on them, that will take a while. The Tereanans have developed a new shielding technology that allows a shield to have multiple modulations at the same time. Making it next to impossible to get any weapon through just by matching one of the shields modulations. This new technology also reduces damage by 75%. We are also working on a similar technology for multi-variance temporal shields. All Tereanan ships are being outfitted with the multi-frequency shielding technology. We're working with the Federation on a way to combine our new shielding technologies to make a next to impenetrable shielding system. Hopefully, if a vessel is equipped with either shielding technology, they should be able to stop the nanoprobes by using the technology with the forcefields.
Repairs on Starbase 7144 are under way. As well as the shielding upgrades. Tereanan Destroyers are being refitted with subspace mines, which will be undetectable to the Borg until it's too late. Transponders will prevent the mines from destroying friendly targets. The Tereanans are also working on dispersal fields to scatter transporter beams in case the shields go down. These dispersal fields are actually Borg in origin, however, because of the Borg vessels that have been captured after the destruction of the Uni-Complex, the Tereanans have been able to refit several ships with this technology.
While the Tereanan Empire reconstruction Transwarp Station 7, Transwarp Station 8 is going to get a huge increase in traffic because of the destruction of station 7, Transwarp Station 1 is the closest station to Federation Space other than Station 5, which is near Earth. Transwarp drives will be necissary to reach those stations in a reasonable time. The Tereanan Emprie is also going to expand their transwarp network to allow more access points to and from the Delta-Quadrant. Station 5 only goes to other stations in the Alpha Quadrant for security reasons.

I think I've missed something .
Anyway, he takes the mindset of Kirk, once you get taken out of the big chair and put behind a desk you're pretty much powerless.
*****Adm. Petri - U.S.S. Hime - Captain's Log Stardate 781448.4******
Our experiments with the Borg compound have proven both insightful and disturbing. It does indeed assimilate any organic material it comes in contact with, but additionally, based on holographic simulations, has a paralytic effect on the body, rendering the victim helpless. On top of that the suspension fluid appears to be capable of burning through a starship's hull, plasma conduits, ODN lines, in effect, every Federation starship could be turned into scrape metal by this stuff. It seems that it can be contained by simple forcefields, but eliminating it using the life support system is out.
While the Tereanan pursue the nano-tech angle for neutralizing this stuff, Starfleet is looking for a chemical counter. Despite both the Tereanans relative success with nano technology and the knowledge provided by 7 of 9, Starfleet is reluctant to start putting nanoprobes into humans. This is even despite the fact that I have successfully been living with nanites of my own design for nearly three years. Hell, mine probably do stuff the even the Borg never thought of, not the least of which is the ability to copy my entire neurological state to a nearby computer system in the event of my death, allowing them to repair and "restart" my body without damaging "me". Starfleet however, does not believe that most people will have the ability to effectively use my nanites, due to the level of training needed to control them. On top of that, it is unclear how effective they would be against Borg nanoprobes unless being actively controlled by the host.
Regardless of Starfleet's beliefs, this may be the only viable option. To that end I have ordered by CMO to being producing enough for all major personal. However, I will not force anyone to take them.
We are also working with the Tereanans to implement transporter scramblers by providing existing technologies.
I am ordering all personal to under go basic hand to hand combat and bladed weapon use. These tactics have proved useful during the station attack; it seems the Borg have yet to adapt well to low speed kinetic attacks.
We received word that the 2nd fleet has arrived in the Delta quadrant and is due to arrive here within 12 hours. At this point the most beneficial plan will be to keep a sizable force here for protection while the remainder search the surrounding space in small groups. We need intel, we have no clue where the Borg are, or where they might be. Fighting blind like this is no good.

oh come on this guy single handedly invented nanites that work. thats a bit "heroic" soon you'll turn him into ace rimmer (what a guy )
also minds take up a lot of computer space, so this hime will have to be near a large computer all the time, and how fast can he transmit it, it's a safe bet he has fast mobile broadband. he obviously isnt on my network
and the borg wouldnt wanna copypasta drones' minds, only knowledge will help, the mind is run via cloud computing the hive mind anyway.
this nanite virus seems a bit silly too, the amount of nanoprobes needed would be stupidly high and the technology innefficient.
i always wondered why the borg couldnt adapt to getting their bums kicked with blades and stuff, a simple force field around each drone would do the job. wouldnt have to be strong enough to take a phaser shot, but just enough to cushion the impact of a batleth.
