its better than the russian ruble, which is close to nothing.

as the famous russian reversal goes:

in america ruble is worthless

in russia ruble is errr worthless, wait that doesnt work.

cents and dollars are in the same currency

the rate is currently LE 5.71 = USD 1

USD 0.17 (17 us cents) is just short of LE 1 (maybe this is why you said 17 cents.

btw LE stands for egyptian pound in french.

that ends in 47, just like trek

EDIT: if u really want a laugh, look up the zimbabwean dollar, it was the currency of (you guessed it) zimbabwe, they had to knock zeroes off the money so many times. hyper inflation meant that getting accurate exchange rates was actually quite difficult, but near the end it became quite ludicrous with billions of Z$ needed to get 1 USD.

in the end the government stopped printing it, as notes worth 100 billion Z$ would buy u three eggs.

the note in the following picture was worth the same as the eggs sitting on it.

the Z$ is not being printed now, so other currencies (GBP, USD, SA Rand etc) are being used.

I'll bow to your greater experience, i'll have to give it a proper try.

Yep, I converted the their Pound into U.S. currency to compare it.  I just looked at Wikipedia to see what you mean about LE, I guess they also call it EPG (Egyptian Pound or Gineih).  Good 'ol Wikipedia and all its fun facts!

I'll have to correct you on that.  Its 30 rubles to the dollar.  For that i can buy about 30 decent* cigs or 1 decent can of beer or more than a litre of petrol (its currently about 22 rubles for 92 (4 star)).

How much do cigs, beer, and petrol cost you?

* by decent i mean regular, not cheapest of the cheap and not expensive.
