Actually  those  names you suggest are actuall  over 1000 miles from the Okinawaia Ryukyu island chain. So If  one was really to use those names  be like calling  some one from Maine  a  Texan. Not  good way to keep you dental work. So  Ryukyu Island  names of Islands and cities should be only used. like Naha, Kadenia Ect.

umm I posted those names as they are BATTLES in the Pacific Theater of Operations during WW-2 not because they have anything to do with Okinawa Islands itself

You missed a few key actions, notably the battle off Samar.

well i posted the More well known battles that particular battle I forgot about.  I left out Pearl Harbor intentionally thinking that that particular battle would sacred and not have a ship named for it but i have discovered that the US navy has in fact named a ship  USS Pearl Harbor LSD 52

I'm thinking that they're likely just naming them after the locations...  Naming ships, or ship classes after battles where a bunch of humans got together and killed another bunch of humans doesn't sound too starfleet-ish.  Especially considering that they wouldn't limit it to just WWII, but a lot of (from their perspective) historical attacks/battles, etc..

USS 9/11 - NCC: xxxxx.....

True enough    however 9/11 wasn't a Battle

There is some precedent for ships named after dates.  For instance, the 25 de Julio ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAE_25_de_Julio ) and the Nueve de Julio ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARA_Nueve_de_Julio ), and the Veinticinco de Mayo ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARA_Veinticinco_de_Mayo_(C-2) ) are all notable examples.  There are no instances of the United States, United Kingdom, or any other western power doing the same, though, to my knowledge.

Plus, 9/11 was hardly a battle.

A massacre is more fitting.

die Okinawa is actually named after the Japanese island, not the battle that took place there and was of course named the same. The Okinawa starship names are of course a bit less usual Starfleet designations, as Klingon engineers participated in the development process too. Qapla'!

A Starfleet ship with Klingon-style names? That'll be an interesting sight.

It is possible they are named in memory of the dead rather than the actual battle itself. Starfleet doesn't glorify war, but they also don't dismiss the dead like the Dominion do. Especially considering a number of those sacrifices are indirectly resposible for the Federation being possible (like the WW2 ones).
