Lol you are a borg player ray right? Statistics suggest that the borg are winning 5x more than any race. The map I made is very similar to duel and its more balanced so non fed/borg races have a better chance.

Based on just statistics gathered from the posts here we have wins (1) and losses (0) when both sides were given. No correlative behavior recorded (aka, who wins dom vs fed, dom vs kling, etc as not enough data). I could create a real spread sheet if everyone can record the results, and we could cross reference it to the players involved too. We could compile a whole list if you'd care to, but I think we see one very clear trend with just these reported stats, in that no trend can be computed other than that people play mainly Fed, Borg and Klingon. According to these base stats, apparently Feds are horrendously overpowered, not Borg - yet we've just heard the opposite several times. If you aren't recording statistics properly (and by no means are these recorded properly, since we are missing 30% of the results here at least) you will jump to incorrect conclusions. If there is enough data I can even run some p-tests if people would like to determine if they are statistically significant, assuming of course that all players are equal and a null H that all strategies are equal and executed equally well.
Wins Losses # Games Totaled (so it is duplicated)
Borg 111111 000 9
Klingon 1 0000000 8
Dom 0
Fed 111111111 0000 13
Rom 00 2
EDIT: hm, formatting screwed up, sorry about that.

Hey Dom,
I'll grant you that the stats weren't gathered and tabulated perfectly. I pulled the numbers out of the posts based on what info was avaialable and didn't want to bother making some crazy graph of "which faction vs which faction" and such as .... well frankly I didn't care.
However, all inefficiencies aside, I think there was enough of a discrepancy to make me look in to why Borg and Feds were having SUCH a field day.
The things I gathered actually led me to investigate the map more than the balance. I realized that, due to the distances between the expansions and the starts, the position of the center di moon, and a few other things, the Borg and Feds have an immense advantage if played certain ways.
Borg's biggest one being that their expansion is not as critical right away seeing as they can field a good fleet without it.
The Feds can rely on rapid turretting to establish a hold on a moon and Warpins to freely boost their forces if they somehow manage to miss out on that expansion. Romulans and Klingons are unable to do so (as the turrets are either not as fast to put out or too expensive).
Overall it's been very interesting to watch how these work as I observed quite a few games. The Borg have few differentiations in their gamestyle so we saw the same strat quite a few times. Scube/Probe rush to the opponent's expanding builder (or their natural Di if they did not expand), destroy the miners, then back off. The job of that first fleet is not to destroy buildings, but simply to ruin enough of the economy that the enemy will not have the ships available to stop the first sphere - gg. .
On duel that seemed to work out very well because, again, the Borg could take their time in getting their expansion going.
SO .... while the data I collected wasn't perfect by any means, I don't think that it's irrelevant

I would like to say that Duel was only chosen as the map for the tournament because it was the most widely played 1v1 map. But now we see that there are potential problems with it so Funny has created a more balanced version in Feud and that shall be the map used for tournament matches going forward. Previous matches still count but any match played after this post using Duel or Outland Outposts will be considered invalid.

Thank you Blazing_gig
I'm afraid the problems we're facing would be even worse on open fields. Further expansions and blue nebs instead of purple

But the blue nebs are in the center, and not close to the expansions, plus blue nebs are a little better since you can actually find the borg ships if you have to go in. Just a thought.

The blue nebs are closer to the starbase which would be worse than the problem we have been having with spheres on duel.

Duel and Earlybird share the same problem...the exp is quite far away...and as Boggz mentioned the Borg can build a significant battlefleet without worriing to expand til midgame...

Well the group stage for the tournament is over. Check the first post to see who moved on and is in the elimination round. Those of you who are are already scheduled for your matches so lets get them done.
Thanks to ALL participants for helping make this a success so far and good luck to those in the elimination round

why have u ended the group stage already?
last week you said we have until 2 days from now to finish our group matches

my group for instance could have changed drastically as agamemnon hadnt played any matches, he could have won them all, pwning everyone and gone 6-0
