Question: Which web browser do you use? (pick multiple if you use more than one)

Just curious, I know the overall stats for browsers, but not specifically for FO.

My input about two browsers that I don't think you should use (I would hide it with a button to show, but I don't know how/if I can do that with the forum's code):
Btw: If you do use Internet Explorer, I'd like to take a moment to say it sucks. It's slow, unresponsive when it first starts, and follows a set of standards made up by Microsoft (international standards have been agreed upon, and are followed by most browsers, but IE goes by Microsoft's personal standards that were decided by Microsoft and Microsoft alone.) The standards issue can cause websites to display improperly. IE also uses ActiveX, which I've heard causes security vulnerabilities.
IE also had some nonsense error report about improper HTML for about 90% of websites up until the first stable IE8 version.
FireFox also has a few problems, mainly that it can take 2 minutes to start up if it's the first time you start it after the computer boots up. It takes a lot less if it has been started before, but those 2 minutes can be annoying. FireFox also takes up a somewhat large amount of memory with even just one tab open.

I use IE 8, and it doesn't give me any errors.

Do you see a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the bottom left corner? It's possible you're not looking at websites that give that error (most do, but not all.)

Here's a screenie of my desktop with IE8 showing the error.

I look at many different sites and don't recall that symbol. I only remember 1 page that gave that, though it doesn't seem to do anything bad.

 You must not be looking very closely. I just loaded FO with IE8. Notice the "Done, but with errors on page"?

We must have different versions of IE8 or something. I see the problem, I have IE 8 beta, the problem must've been fixed with the current version. Strange that IE didn't tell me to update it or anything (a useful feature if you happen to miss that "beta" above the version number.)

I use Chrome with Firefox as my backup.  I have been meaning to try opera though :whistling:

That 13.5% is prally all me dom :D  I frequent the guide.  I prally use it more than new modders do.

I use chrome because of how simple and fast it is.  I can not compare to opera, but I dislike firefox and how UI heavy it is, and how long it takes to load, and how it asks to restart for updates every time I run it, ect.  but it is still 10 times better than IE. :sweatdrop:

Last I heard Chrome was by far the fastest with JavaScript (stats from when Opera was just hitting stable 10.0 release), but Opera 10.62 improved speed with JavaScript by 50% over Opera 10.5, so that lead is likely small now.
Opera uses more memory than Chrome with one tab open, but Chrome becomes rather inefficient with multiple tabs (three Chrome tabs is a little worse than one tab with FireFox, much worse than Opera with the same three tabs.)
Opera has better startup time than Chrome, tho that is another old stat.

I used Chrome until recently, a major visual thing is that Opera has smooth scrolling, whereas Chrome is jumpy IIRC.
Scrolling with Opera causes FO page background to be black for a bit in the top or bottom, depending on scroll direction. Chrome scrolling caused the to do list vertical bars to have missing one pixel length segments.
It seems that Chrome beats Opera in speed at loading FO page too, but Opera at least tells you how much progress it has made.
Opera also has issues with posting on FO forums sometimes, some error dealing with a remote server.

Hehe, that's somewhere in the neighborhood of 400+ different personalities :D. Probably some of the problems opening up FO.net are due to the old site, but that'll be remedied soon enough I'm sure :)

Firefox is too big and bulky but i still have it installed on my system because not everything is compatible with chrome. Also let me point you to w3schools website for browser statistics Browser Statistics

I use IE8 for most things and I've never had any real problems with it. I find it can be sluggish if memory use is high and if you have a lot of extra toolbars installed it can be a little slow the first time it's started. As for the little "Done with errors" message, I get that on a third of the sites I visit, and that was even back on IE7. All that really means is that something maybe didn't load entirely. It never seems to have a very adverse affect, it's just IE being nit-picky. As far as I know, IE8 uses the W3 standards for page validation. I think the default is XHTML 1.0 which has stricter syntax rules than basic HTML. It doesn't prevent the page from displaying correctly, it just complains about it. If in doubt, turn on Compatability Mode and you shold be all set.

I also use Opera for some things, though no where near as much as IE. It's about as good as any other and has it's own little niceties. I've played around with Firefox and it seems to be just another browser. It does take forever to start the first time, and it's always yapping about updates. I haven't bothered with Chrome, and probably never will unless I just want to see what it's all about.

When it comes right down to it, is browser speed even an issue any more. If you have a decent processor with 2-3 GBs of RAM, they should all run about as fast as each other, or at least sufficiently so that the user doesn't care or notice.

By the way Tyler, I think that's the most toolbars I've ever seen used at once. That would drive me insane.

Has anyone tried the new Internet Explorer 9 Beta (IE9 Beta)?

I think I will get it when it gets officially released, but I was just wondering if anyone has tried it and if it is just like IE8 or better (or worse  :borg:).
