sounds like your school's security systems are inadequate.

jetnova16 wrote:Internet si internet, we all use the programs that work best for us, why argue about the programs? At least IE 8 has one good feature if a tab or the whole thing stops working, it reopens the tab or the page for you and you don't lose the page you were  on. A very handy feature.

other browsers have tab restore features too :D thats not a ie unique feature, in fact its a feature that is expected not special.

ie8 isnt terrible. its still below par. it doesnt cut the mustard. but previous ie was much worse. ie has improved from really really really bad to just bad. with ie9 it looks like ie will be average, on par with its competition.

but it wont be able to reverse its decline as people have been hating ie for so long they dont know anything else. its instinct now.

Maybe that is the case for where you are from, but as for where I am from, everyone mostly uses IE8, or IE7. ITs the program that is tuaght in classes at schools and even online classes have been designed to use IE. At least that is the case where I'm from, the Angel Network for online classes uses it, for example.

I've seen college-related systems that need IE to work. That's a big indicator of the quality of those systems (e.g. Blackboard, where on every non-IE browser it can't tell that you've selected homework to upload. My college is going to stop using Blackboard very soon with good reason.) Where you're from sounds like it's not run by very tech-savvy people.
It's likely they use IE because, like most consumers who bought Windows, they don't know what they're doing and it came pre-packaged and seemed to work. They probably then didn't switch because that would mean change, and learning new things. Many people will use whatever shit-tastic things they have as long as they can avoid any sort of change.

That is true, but in this areas case, it is slightly different.

Wow i never though id have to explain how awful IE is. Why dont you try one of the other ones and see. And No IE doesnt have the majority of usage that belongs to firefox with 45 percent usage, followed by IE with 30 percent (poor ignorant fools) and the superior browser chrome with 17 percent usage. BTW Jet are you sure your in a computer course at college i figure out how bad IE was 5 or 6 years ago.

Most of the SUNY Schools use IE, some have other browsers installed but everyone uses IE. The elementary, middle and high schools around where I'm from all have IE as their primary internet source and students are taught how to use that.

Also most of the schools computer classes have a contract with Microsoft for Students to get free access to download Microsoft programs well they are in computer or programming classes, as long as the software is by Microsoft.

Ever since IE6, all the schools I've gone to have used IE, and have taught it. It is even taught to adults who are taking first time computer courses, my aunt and uncle learned all about the internet through IE7.

Maybe we are the lucky ones though, where I go to school there haven't been any internet problems the only problems ever have been with servers being down and no internet browser working then.

To be truthful, I don't see any problem with IE and have had the best exsperiences with it. :)

For my computer, IE8 pops up and loads right away, the moment my AIM logs in, my IE8 pops up and goes to AOL's home page. The same is the case for clicking on the IE logo on my desktop, my homepage hits myspace in like 2 - 5 seconds.

Any reason why it can't be?

IE is a steaming pile of shit compared to other browsers.
