I dunno ... I really think that spamming that arty's only works if you've got backup.  It worked in that game against myself and Sutee mainly because we didn't coordinate ourselves well.  Then it didn't work again when you and I teamed up  ^-^

For the Mort vs Sutee match:

Excellent commentary Yandonman - I think you had a firm grasp on what was going wrong and right, and how things were being played out. Watching it again, I have to say I am quite impressed by your analysis here - much better than the first commented game (and the volume is nice now) and quite on point about specific things that could be improved upon and general issues :). You addressed quite a bit of what needs to be said I think

As for the players - can't say much to Sutee, as in the circumstance it was well played out.

As for Mort, I think that micromanagement and unit choice were a flaw there, but I am sure you will be back up to speed in no time (especially with the new patch as incentive :D ). I edited out all the heaping criticism because frankly Mal pointed out that it could appear asinine of me without an invitation to do such and I tend to agree  :sweatdrop:.

That "turret in the enemy mining" idea was quite ingenious. A nice implementation to prevent the loss of your own expansion from being completely game ending.

Yes indeed some very nice commentary from you, Yandon.  Although I love most that sometimes when you get really excited your voice cracks a bit  :D.  Thank you for taking the time to share all this with us.

   To Sutee:

You used at least 5 Griffins in one place at one time.  The general consensus has been that 4 is the most a person should have.  5 Sensor Jammers going off in one place will devastate too much.  That along with multi-disruptor and the Kaleh maneuver is too much for almost anything under a battleship or a heavy cruiser and strikes nearly everything on the screen.  I really hope you don't make a habit of making so many griffins as it's one of the agreed-upon "exploits" that we as a community have decided needs to be fixed.

The turret-walking was the kind of crafty nonsense that I love and expect from you .  Glad to see it's still there

Boggz, weren't only two Griffins using Sensor Jammer at any one time - or did I miss something? Also, the Monsoon is actually the same speed as the Rhienn (though admittedly the Rhienn turns a hellava lot slower :D ).

Uff.  I hope I never get caught making mistakes when Yandonman captures me on video and then have to read forum posts about it. :P

"Hey Mal, you screwed up!" :woot:

"Yeah, no shit, mother[censored]s!" >:(  I was there, remember?  :whistling:

Anyway, :P Mort was actually Mayson.  You can confirm this at 2/3 at 1:53, so I think he was trying to revamp and do saber spam when he decommissioned most of his stuff and built 2 anteres yards.  Mort is one of the best micro managers I've seen, so he was probably banking on pure management, and it didn't pan out, especially since rhienns are long range.  I definitely agree with the assessments, of course. :)

And yes, Sutee only used 2 griffins at a time, and spaced them out over a period of 5 seconds, more to get the intended effect from the griffins than trying to press the easy button.  I kind of hope that the damage will be removed, but it might be ok if AoEs are getting limited.

Good job by both players!  Mort's always thinking out of the box!

No I indeed saw more than 2 fire at once.  I will re-watch and find the exact time in a bit.

EDIT:  Part #3, 0:38 seconds into it.  Mort is pushing back on Sutee's Vet Rhienns and 5 Griffins decloak.  I suppose I can't really tell how many actually fire the Jammer at once, but I had assumed that really we had instigated a cap of 4 in general.  But there were 5 there, there were two sets of Jammers fired, and I imagine that there were not only 2 able to do so.  For the whole rest of the match he's got at least 5 out and in the same place.

And yes, Mal you're right about how these replays really bring out the nit-picking from all of us.  I confess I get a little annoyed in-game when I feel like someone is judging my playstyle  :whistling:, but here I feel like it's an opportunity for all of us to hone our skills with a visual frame of reference.

Does kind of feel like pundits talking about a political scandal though  :D

I looked at it again.  5 griffins, 2 seperate uses of sensor jammer, but if you keep watching, yandonman's cursor floats over a griffin that has full power.  So at most he used 2 at a time.

huh .... oh well.  But I mean if you fire two, then 5 seconds later fire 2 again ... it's essentially the same as firing 4 at once only the effects of it last longer.

Guess 4 is ok.  The rule is a bit grey as there is really no good way to regulate it ...

Yeah, it is basically the same thing... either way, your Sabers are left without shields and much of their hull... I thought it was just two separate uses. Either way, I really welcome that ability getting a change - but of course that comes very soon  :whistling:

Indeed, making rules in an RTS is quite painful, as the only way to successfully insure that powerful abilities are not used or are used "in moderation" (whatever the hell that is) is to ban the units with them! ...which makes you feel like you've crippled each faction  :crybaby:

Indeed  :(

That's kind of what's nice about direct damage abilities that go for a single target as well as what's bad about AoE abilities.  I just feel that AoE abilities should be relegated to buffs and debuffs, not damage.  Direct damage should be reserved for single-target abilities so that micro-managing your damage is necessary.

Once a spammable ship with area or multi-vessel direct damage is well established, actually stopping them can be near impossible.  Disruptor Rhienn's are one of the best examples.  Luspets would be except that they come so late and really they aren't going to kill large vessels and the damage spreads out over multiple targets.  Hence why norways are rarely seen anymore :(.

Damange over time AoEs are fine - they give the oppoent a chance to respond. It's the instant AoEs that are abusable.
