Yeah, there is an interesting balancing act when recording people and providing feedback. On one hand, the most critical feedback and analysis is the best to learn from. Not only for the players recorded, but also everyone else watching.

On the other hand, I don't want anyone to feel recordings are going to be used to belittle them as that would taint the enjoyment of the game (not to mention make it harder to find people to record). That's why now-a-days I generally ask if it's ok to record someones' game and they can even opt out after I've recorded it if they feel that it just wasn't a good showing for them. I'm also trying to make sure my commentary is fair and balanced, even in its criticisms.

And you have to have respect for players who have the courage to put their games on showcase. They know that they're tactics are going to be nit-picked and torn apart and viewed with a microscope from a bunch of forum folks who have the luxury of armchair quarterbacking. So, keep the analysis coming! And just keep it civil and respectful, even if you know the person well, as we can see, the readers will see your criticisms and think that's what you'll do to them.

I love your commentaries, man.  I wasn't thinking of you when I wrote that, because you make the game infinitely more enjoyable to watch.  Your commentary adds a lot of flavor to the games. :D

At the time I was worried about too much harsh criticism from posts on the forums, but that won't be an issue.  I probably should have edited my post, since now it sounds kind of harsh.  And I completely agree with what you've said.

Aye.

I'm anal-retentive about efficiency and sometimes that gets the better of me.  I didn't mean to come across as bossy or as elitist or anything like that.  I edited my post back to only include stuff that I thought was borderlining on exploitation because I feel like that stuff shouldn't slip under the radar.

Other than that please keep up the commentary!  I love it and wish I wasn't too cheap to afford Hypercam!

Nice job buddy!

Way to make little comments on gameplay strategies, differences in 3.1.1, and other things to consider in online play!  I'm sure those that haven't been able to get online yet will appreciate it!

EDIT:  After watching most of the rest I can see why Dom and Dexter Decom'd their bases.  Sutee alone had an overwhelming fleet of V-13's and Nucleardude wouldn't leave his base with his Cube.  There is a thread elsewhere in the Online Play forum asking when it's ok to say "gg".

This is one of those moments :).

Since Sutee has blockaded the wormhole, has an enormous fleet, and simply won't attack, it can make an opponent feel as though their time is being wasted.  Couple that with the fact that Nucleardude wouldn't seem to leave his base and it's essentially Dexter and Dom vs. an overwhelming force that simply won't attack them.  That's when I would say "gg" and quit.  :)  If Sutee had actually attacked then it would have been fun to watch the V-13's steamroll yer base, but since he apparently had no intentions of doing so ... it's just a waste of time.

A very interesting game indeed.  I must say, I'm quite impressed with Cbosdell.  He hasn't played in six months and really did a number with the K'vorts he had harrassing.  I really like hypercube's map.  I hope that one makes it into the next patch.  A very quality map indeed.  Our community really has some talented map makers!  And if I say map one more time, I think I might explode! :woot:

MAP!

Hehe. We had them at the beginning. But the V-13 spam was the beginning of the end. It was a gg. But, the one thing I really don't like is, that this is my first apperance on a FO vid. And, in my first apperance, I FAILED. "First impressions are important" I sured failed at that.

I would like another game with yandonman recording and commentating. But maybe only something like a 2v2. Something I can win.  :D

Then I will have a win and a loss.

BTW. I did move my cube later, but it got V-13'd. :P

Really I don't have many positive things to say about the game, so I'll try not to say too much. The map is far too big for my tastes - with its small access points and close expansions it promotes turtling as well as rapid spamming. Home territory gets a significant bonus in this department for those reasons. Little communication or understanding of communication - at least on "our team" led to quite a few misshaps as well.

A few notes of clarification for Yandon:
Dexter likes to play like a Klingon and go full on in - no retreat to save ships for the Klingons usually *in character*  >:D
Bugs 1 hit kill B'rels something like 85% of the time.
Remember that SuS'a' also excel against structures ;)
From the look of it, 3x regen 1x prime spheres
-->the point of giving up was when the V-13's poured through the wormhole and then went back again - you caught the tail end of it with my leahvals heading back and forth: that was nearing the end of video 4 :D . After that it was just goof off time for Dex and me.

Zebh gets extra points for not spamming and actually teching up. Of course, that left him weakest in this patch, but that will be changed back again. Dex tried a slow progression through the tech tree to take advantage of some of the early units, but had to give into spamming against the tide that could not be turned. Against what I knew would be late game V-13 spam and K'vort spam I tried to alleviate that with pure Leahvals - but I hate the "tactic" as it is only good for slowing the tide of spam with more spam, and it shouldn't be valid at all.

Some good points indeed.  I guess there really are only 2 ways in or out of the map.  By the wormhole, and going the long way around.  Maybe one thing that could improve it is opening up the sides.  This would create 4 ways to cross instead of 2, so you can't just build perimeters around the "main" entrance and camp there.

But seriously, why build anything else when your basic short ranged cruiser is all you need to zip in and zip out?  Who needs silly things like tech trees?  Pew Pew!

Indeed. Plus, how can I build anything like a battleship, if it will never even get to the battle on a map of that size :D . This map seemed very much to me a "defend against the AI merciless" sort of map. It's not bad - just not my style  :sweatdrop:

I don't think the map is too big  :sweatdrop:. I think that it just has too few access points to the other side.  "Funneling" points and Wormholes placed RIGHT in the line of fire are just BEGGING to be camped and blockaded.

Sorry Dom but I have to disagree about the expansions.  I really liked how even the starting moons are far enough away from the starbase that you can't expect them to be entirely safe.  That requires more thought to be given to the defense of your bases and how you divide up your fleets (excellent use of this principle demonstrated in this game by several of the Klingons ).  Harassment can occur while simultaneously defending.

Map itself just needs to be a bit more open and I think that it will be excellent! :)

As for your desire to "win" on camera, Nuke ... you've GOT to start listening to your teammates and start understanding when to attack and when to retreat.  You have a bad habit of not engaging enemies to help your teammates and running off when you should fight.  Those are things that you will improve at over time, but those are the things you should really focus on if you want to do better on camera :D.  Listen to your experienced teammates and they will help you!

Oh, sure the moons aren't easily defensible - I'm fine with that (where did I mention that I wasn't?  :sweatdrop: ) . What I mean is that they are too close - two moon pairs near the starbase is just asking to have a very fast early game output. Which is exactly what happened. People just expanded right off the bat as harassment was just impossible that early. Camping became seriously easy with that start up. Most battles were fought on the the defending team's territory and after losing those mostly, there was no point in playing in either mine or Dexter's opinion (if I may speak for him at the moment).
