Think of it as swarming. Whoever can swarm the best wins. That's why 2 Assims > Sphere, 3 adaptors and probes > 2 assimilators. You can move your damaged ships away before they die, and kill at least one of the bigger ships, if not more. There's various counters back and forth, and I forget them all for Borg vs. Borg, but that's why Dom wrote it down somewhere.

Where Ruanek said "I'm dead" was his 'gg'. After that, the game turned from competitive to more of a discussion. I usually only do all or nothing (and Ruanek was voting for nothing), but I convinced him to have his first 10 mins of play posted as I figured it would be instructive for him to see where he is doing good and where he is making mistakes.
Hmm... I should improve my editing. The abrupt ending does look bad.
And, don't worry Boggz, you redeem yourself 'gloriously' in the next vid!

Ruanek kind of gave up after what you saw there. He despaired quite a bit and I got frustrated that he didn't seem like he was going to try
So I decided to spend the rest of the game coaching him through it but ... man he was really quite down on himself and down on everything. He was convinced that he had no chance. When a person is convinced as such they don't tend to do so well.

I often feel the same desperate way playing against Borg (unless I play Borg myself in these cases). Some maps are so big I can't even break through Borg lines with multiple massive fleets (With Dominion Puretech I once was cutting my way with a full complement of defenders, two bombersquads of 16 and many battleships).
At least I know how to scout o.o

That was an interesting game. I would say I didn't really give up until a few minutes after that, when I attacked his expansion and saw Boggz's large fleet. But I was panicking because I couldn't find the expansion. I somehow forgot where it was from before the game, and I ended up having to send my scout from his base to follow a miner and see where his was. But from that point on he was able to out-produce me, and he even managed to amass 5 steamrunners with which he destroyed my second shipyard, and somewhere my warbird yard and tal shiar center, though that might have been later as he was finishing up my base. Up to that point I was basically out of supplies and resources, so I had to put production on hold until I could buy supplies, then ships.

Aye. You got kinda F'd by the fact that I managed 5 steamies from warp-ins. On the other hand most didn't come until later. To be honest, you could likely have crippled my expansion when you killed my Galaxies that I so stupidly let die. I think I let you kill 3 Galaxies like a moron

Anyway, I apologize for getting upset because I figured you weren't going to try after you said gg. I'm not a fan of quitters

For being a new player, I think you have a lot of potential, Ruanek.

A few words of advice perhaps to Mr. Stardust
Use your range and group your vessels in multiple fleets. Too many times did I see Excels, Sabers, and even Excel II's fly into close range, or seeing short range Ambassadors retreating in circles and never staying in range. Likewise, seeing Excel I's and II's flying at the same speed as your poor Ambassadors ... . Also, when you need to repair, don't have every single ship repair - you lost quite a few ships just because you did not realize when you should turn back and hit the klingon ships. Just select the ones that are heavily damaged
.
It seemed you also teched up waaaaaay too much and too quickly. You really did not play to Risner's strengths I think. Building slow long range pulse armed Phalanxes against artillery range Veqs just is asking to get your engines disabled. You started with Monsoons, but never really made use of them, and then completely neglected Akiras, Intrepids, and Remores (until the end) which are your strong point in the middle game (especially if you build two Antares Yards). You started to build Excel II's which are your "weakest" Risner vessel as well. I think you just need to focus on what the strengths of the avatar are and not experiment with just building 1-2 units of each ship class as that is not too effective.
Lastly, I realize you were being attacked a bit, but Boggz did take the 3rd position quite quickly and sending a Warp In over there while attacking his main resource hub would have guaranteed his losing one of them.
I can't really say much to Boggz, as the strategy worked in this case - normally I think though that it would not be nearly as effective if your Federation opponent had been much more aggressive. You had full control over the situation and made quite effective use of the units at your disposal.
If I remember some more things I'll write them down
EDIT: small errors...

Yes indeed I had figured that without the Veq's and also without some mistakes made By Stardust I would not have had control so easily. The Brel truly showed it's colors in it's abilities to harass while the KbeajQ's stronger hull saved me a number of times as I was able to retreat them one at a time and save them for later. The Veqs were really the clincher because I was able to quickly destroy those stubborn Ambassadors that just won't de otherwise.
I think if Star's fleets had been better organized I would not have been able to control the engagements as I did.

Really evil is if you get romulan mixed-tech Sang's. Special ability hits 7 instead of 5 targets and it attacks two enemies at once. With Taq's B'rels and K'Vorts you also enjoy fighting Borg much easier in the beginning of a game... I easily won various matches holding enemies off from every possible expansion with swarms of B'rels and then attacking the base with warships... Martok is a little more difficult to play, especially against Borg (because the Luspet is taking too long in construction and his Birds of Prey aren't that strong without torps) but the Su'S'a is at least in the beginning of a game a great Sang-alternative even with its horrible short range.
